After 16 hours of travelling, arriving at the Plaza Athenee was like we'd died & gone to heaven.
The hotel is an oasis of calm in the mad city of Bangkok. OK the location isn't brilliant but it's not bad either. At the end of the day, we got taxi's everywhere which was cheap enough & the sky train is just round the corner. As it turned out my most treasured experience in Bangkok was just round the corner from the hotel at Lumphini Park! I would highly recommend visiting the park at 7am! It's tough getting up but well worth it. We saw Tai Chi with fans, swords, sticks, ladies dancing in a circle ( and I got dragged in!), ballroom dancing to La Boheme (took my breath away) and everyone stops & stands for the national anthem at 8am. I just loved the experience. Everyone was so friendly & happy to see us walking around.
Anyway, back to the hotel! After a sweaty day at the sights, the pool is just divine to slip into. You really do feel the world swimming away as you float, gazing at the skyline.
We booked with colours of asia & got a great deal combining 3 days in Bangkok with 8 days in Hua Hin. I can't recommend this hotel enough!!
