Probably

We (four of us in two rooms)arrived in Ibiza mid September on an "allocated on arrival" deal and were transported to the Abrat in the middle of the night (lousy flight times). Our credit card type keys didn't work (an omen of things to come?) and had to be let in to our rooms by the night porter, collecting our reprogrammed keys next morning.

Breakfast was the standard buffet type, as were all meals, with the usual very streaky bacon strips and swimming eggs, cereal, cold boiled eggs, etc. We lasted less than a week with the half board and ate out most of the time. If you wanted hot food you had to be there when the dining room opened, and eat fast. Food was repetitive, and mostly guesswork as no signage was there to tell you what was in the often breadcrumb wrapped offerings. Plates were cold, so the lukewarm food soon became cold. Complaints to the rep made no difference.

The rooms were comfortable and spacious with large fitted wardrobes and very clean, even if the decor could do with a freshen up. Heating and/or air conditioning is available for a payment (we didn't require either, so can't say how much) and is programmed into your "key". Maid service was daily, but they did respect the "do not disturb" signs if we wanted to sleep late.

The foyer is large and practically all marble, with steps down to the bar which opens up to the spacious pool area with the large garden off to the side. The bar staff were pleasant although they were stuggling a little with the language at times, but we shouldn't be expecting everyone in Spain to speak english anyway.

The Abrat, we found, was ideally situated if you don't mind a decent walk or a short taxi ride to get to the main entertainment in San Antonio, or you could catch the bus from the stop right outside the front door. Numerous supermarkets are a short walk from the side gate beside the pool area of the hotel.

Once we got our bearings, we found we were not much more than a twenty minute walk from the main town (occasionally stopping for a light refreshment along the way) and found ourselves doing this often as there was little entertainment on offer at the hotel (only two acts per week and the same ones both weeks we were there). The famous "Cafe Del Mar" for example, was about half a mile away going round by the rocky shore.

After a day of exploring or sunbathing and swimming we would return to our rooms for a siesta then head out in the evening for a decent meal and return later to prepare for our nights enjoyment. We got to know the night porter quite well as we left around 11p.m. and returned about 5a.m., the bars being open till 6a.m. or later. Although we did see a couple of street fights, we felt very safe wending our way along the streets and alleys on our way back to the hotel.

All in all a great holiday marred only by the food on offer at the hotel, but as I said, we gave up on that and ate out. I would recommend the Hotel Abrat for location and cleanliness, and I believe they do have a self catering option during the main season, so if we were to return to the Abrat this is what we would choose.

best thing about this hotel is that it was clean, food was ok but not much variation, the cleaners we nice, but we found the bar staff unfriendly and surly great place if you want somewhere quiet, nice garden to sunbathe in, not a lot going on entertainment wise, a good place for older couples wanting a quiet holiday, not very good for families and a definiate no no for you clubbers, was hard to belive this was san antonio!
