On top of an expensive watch, my partner booked a surprise long weekend to Amsterdam, staying at the Acro for my 50th birthday.
It is an excellent LITTLE hotel. Try to avoid room 104!
We had a wonderful time. The room, as stated, was quite small, as was the en-suite showerroom, but the bed was comfortable. The buffet breakfast was excellent, and the bar was cosy.
The staff were very friendly, but that seemed to be par for the course in Amsterdam.
There are some great eating places within easy walking distance in all directions.
In the next street are more designer shops than you can shake a stick at. Could be Rodeo Drive, but for the weather.
Trams and canal boats are within easy reach.
If coming in from Schipol airport, use the hotel shuttle. Door-to-door service, €17.50 per person - return.

stayed here in oct 2005 really great hotel the staff are very friendly and will help you with anything.A bit away from centre of amsterdam but no trouble getting a tram its just at the top of the road it takes about 10mins.going again next year and stopping here.

Stayed here with a mate for 4 nights. Staff are really friendly, the rooms are quite large if the get the ensuite ones, the only downfall is the lack of a lift, and you needed climbing equipment when trying to get up the stairs, especially when full of dutch beer, but it was well worth the climb!!! pleasant breakfast room, and located about a 10 minute stroll from Dam Square, close to the Leidseplein but just across the canal from the Heineken Musuem, so not all that bad!!! and conveniently located quite close to the Museums.
