Acuario Sol: ACQUARIO SOL II AMAZING by Les Harries |
| Posted 02 November 2007 about a visit in October 2007 | Overall rating: 9.0 |
The rooms hotel in the hotel were great very spacey and clean the cleaners were very pleasant and would do any extra chores that you required and the pool was excellent with no one waiting or fighting for a sunbed ..Plenty to go around ..Close to the main shops and bars say 8mins walk tops... I go abroad twice every year and this is the best 2 star value i have ever had.. There is a supermarket or more of a mimimarket 20 yards away wich for me was brilliant..our room was 110 which was bottom floor overlooking the pool as was room 111 , 112, 113,114.. wich i would recomend to book...
The downside was there was no air con and the fans cost loads..also the tv was extra..but with a pencil i got mine working fine ..as they removed the buttons for only the remote to work ..i sussed the buttons and away to go...paed for the fans???
Also there was no kettle but no big deal we just boild a cup in a sauspan for morning coffee..over all you will enjoy remember your not in the 7 star in dubai and you will enjoy..but by no means is this hotel a 2 star.... every person we spoke to did not have a bad work about the place...i highly recomend .......

Acuario Sol: Disaster Holiday by Charlene Laffey |
| Posted 11 July 2005 about a visit in June 2001 | Overall rating: 2.0 |
We actually visited the Acuario Sol II apartments back in 1999. It was our first holiday abroad without our parents. What a bad way to start holidaying on our own.
On arrival to our room, we noticed that there was a family of cockroaches already living in it. They were in the wardrobes, under beds, in the kitchen area, in the bathroom. On the first night we reported it to reception who said they'd get someone round to fumigate in the morning. My friend was terrified so we ended up sitting up all night on the balcony. No-one showed up in the morning - we went back to reception. They said they'd send someone round the following morning!! By this point there was a collection of about 15 dead cockroaches outside on our balcony as we'd been spraying bug killer. The following morning, the fumigators turned up. That night there was a further 8-10 dead cockroaches which we put outside on our balcony.
Everything settled down for a few nights, we thought the fumigation had worked. After a stressful few days my friend fell asleep on the sofa in the living room area, I'd gone to bed. It was pretty early - about 10pm. It was really windy this night and the door was rattling. All of a sudden my friend woke up and there was a man standing in the doorway of the living room. She screamed and he ran away. We had definately locked the room before going to bed. We think the "burglar" had seen the lights out and assumed we were out and tried to break in (or use a key to access the room).
We reported the incident to reception who changed the locks of the room then charged us £15 for doing so!!!!!!
Then, our cockroache friends decided to join us again. We reported it to our rep (Airtours) who basically said that it was to be expected in Lanzarote. OK - yeah, we expected one or two but not 10-15 a night! Also, we had got friendly with the people in rooms around us who said they'd never seen a cockroach in their rooms. We were told to get bug spray from reception. When we asked for it - we were told that they couldn't access the cupboard as the cleaners had finished for the day. Every day we asked for it - every day we were pawned off with some excuse. So, we ended up spending most of our holiday money on bug spray.
At the end of the first week we were fed up with it and thought we were being ignored so we went to the rep and said we wanted to move rooms. Funnily enough - no rooms available. They could move us to Acuario Sol III which was actually still being built across the road from Acuario Sol II. At this time it consisted of about 4 rooms. Completley unoccupied, no pool or anything. After our scare with someone trying to break into our apartment we refused!
She assured us she'd get the room fumigated again for us the following day, which she did. We didn't realise that we were actually supposed to vacate the room for 8 hours after the fumigation as we were never told. They were wearing protective masks over their faces, painted stuff on the floors and then sprayed airfreshner at the back of them. All the time we were sitting in the balcony waiting to go back into the room. We were never once told to stay out of the room. It wasn't until we got home to Scotland that we were told!
The 2nd fumigation didn't work at all. The Cockroaches were actually crawling out of the plug holes, dropping from door ways etc. The rep did everything she could to BLAME us for it - were we leaving food lying out, were we leaving the plug holes uncovered, were we leaving the lights on?!!
We expressed how unhappy we were, this was our first holiday abroad without our parents, we were only 19 and this was putting us off holidaying again! We said we were going to put a complaint in when we got home. That night she came round with a bottle of wine and the equivalent of £50 in pesatas for us saying it was out of her own pocket - we should treat ourselves to a nice meal and forget about it for a night! Which we did.
The rest of the week was really the same - every morning the maid would come along and clean up the dead cockroaches. We just got used to it. No amount of complaining to the rep or the hotel staff seemed to make any difference.
As I said - we expected one or two but not double numbers of cockroaches on a daily basis.
Haven't been back to Lanzarote since and would never go back to Acuario Sol apartments. We also put a complaint in to Airtours on our return and were given £100 compensation!!
