| Agios Nikolaos Review: Wish i stayed here..... | | Written by Robert Morgan on 03 Oct 2003
| | I booked a budget two week holiday, as me and my girlfriend has already been twice so far this year. We didn't know where to go and finally decided on Crete. When booking i was looking for a place with a party feel, but at the same time a place that had kept some of it's original charm. Don't know why but I ended up in the middle of Stalis and Malia, which great place for fun but was a bit fake.....it seemed to be your usual place created for clubs and pubs. On a day out we found Aghios Nikokaos and we loved the place, we it found late into our second week but we travelled back on forth for next 3 days on a moped. It still has some of it's original charm and feel of a greek community but at the same time has plenty to do. In Malia/Salis you'd be lucky to find a calm day to swim in sea as it was very dangerous. When mountains at the back of Malia/Stalis would hold on to clouds and block out sun, a 26km moped ride to Aghios Nilolaos and the sun would be shinning and the sea was like a lake. As a diver you could not fault the dive centre right in front of two major hotels, about 3/4 min. walk from the harbour. Exellent. i won't be going to Crete for a year or two but, i know where i will stay when I do......... AGHIOS NIKOLAOS |
