We live in Limassol and popped in to the Amathus for a drink / snack to see how it was since it had just completed a major refurbishment. We asked where the coffee bar was and apparently the only place for coffee is the reception area which was large, impersonal, cold, had marble floors and an awful echo along with that ghastly Italian style* furniture which is so popular in Cyprus but so uncomfortable and uninviting.
We sat down, looked at the menu, listened to the awful echo and decided it had the ambience of an airport lounge so we got up and went back to the Colors Cafe at the Four Seasons instead where we luxuriated in comfy chairs surrounded by palm trees in the sun.
We have, since the above visit, eaten at Limanaki, the fish taverna which belongs to the Amathus and is situated between the hotel and the beach. Unlike the rest of the hotel since the refurb, Limanaki is absolutely fabulous and undoubtedly the best fish taverna in Limassol if not Cyprus - food, setting, ambience, staff, couldn't fault a thing.
*I don't think Italians themselves buy this furniture; they just export it to gullible foreigners!
