Main Street near Hotel La Ramblas

Went to Barcelona for a short break with friends and booked the Ambassador. Was advised by staff on arrival that the Hotel is new in that it had recently been taken over. Staff were very nice and polite and helpful and laways had a smile on their faces which is unusual for Spanish Hotel staff I find. Rooms were overlooking a quiet street and a new double glazed patio door which leads to a small balcony kept out most of the noise when we were in bed at night although it can still be quite noisy if a large group walks by shouting and singing at 4am which did happen most nights. The hotel room was quite dark as a result of it overlooking a small street with the opposite building only about 20 feet away but we felt this was quite nice and very Spanish. If you go to Barcelona for a short trip you will be so busy that you will rarely be in your hotel room and for this reason I would easily recommend the Ambassador because although it is not 5 star it is more than adequate for a city break. We didnt eat in the hotel and dont think much folk do as it is so close to the Ramblas that you are spoiled for choice with resteraunts etc. The hotel has a little bar which again very few residents used unless just to wait for others in their party and to grab a quick drink.

The hotel has a roof pool which was very nice to relax in after a hard days sightseeing but it has no waiter service so if you want a drink or two take your own up with you.

The best thing about the Hotel is the location. It is about 45 seconds walk from Ramblas which is where most tourists spend their day however it is a suitable distance away so as not to be disturbed by the noise from the Ramblas which goes on all night.

As for Barcelona itself - great place to visit highly recommend but beware of thieves. There were four of us and my wifes bag was stolen and my friend was pick pocketed which happend every minute of the day as far as we could gather from peoples reaction.
