Amsterdam Review: Amsterdam

Amsterdam is an excellent City to visit for a few days as there is loads to do, and a good variety of ways to amuse yourself.

You definitely want to get an Amsterdam pass in advance - they are fab. The web site is simplyamsterdam.nl and I think it cost about 24 euros for a 3 day pass plus a ticket from the airport to the City centre. The pass comes with a little book giving you free entry to loads of Museums, a free canal ride and discounts in various shops. The best thing is that you can unlimited tram trvel for the three days, making it nice and easy to get round the city without counting the cost.

The Anne Frank museum (Anne Frankhuis) is a must, and culture types will enjoy the Amsterdam Historich museum, Van Gogh, Foam (A photography museum) and Stedelijk museum (modern art).

You should also visit the Heineken museum - it's about 6 euros and its an excellent tour involving a modest amount of free beer and a Heineken glass too. They've really made an effort to do it properly, so its not too dull for us non-beer drinkers! And of course, there are plenty of diamond selling jewellers for bargain sparkly things.

My final "tip" is to note that "gracht" means canal - so when you see a road called "Princengracht" it means "Princes canal". This is worth knowing, because there will be another "Princengracht" on the other side of the water - I hope this helps you map read!

Really enjoyed Amsterdam, despite being stranded there by terrible weather - the extra night at some close-to-the-airport-conference type hotel did involve some delicious food, some excessive drinking, and a generous contribution from Easy Jet. I'll be flying with them again!

Terminus review
Hotel Terminus
The hotel is apparently converted from some ancient grain store or something. Anyway, its an absolute maze, and getting to your room often involves going open and down a few small flights of steps...
