Antinea Hotel, Studios and Apartments: A great place to stay with the best views. by Allan Cannon |

A first we thought this was just an average hotel, however, with good views, very good food and excellent staff we soon changed our view.
The rooms seemed quite basic but they were cleaned every day with linen and towels changed every other day, by very nice maids. The beds were firm but very comfortable, we have never slept so well on holiday.
The locations of the bar and dining areas, both on different levels, meant a very pleasant outlook over the Aegean when eating.
The clean pool was nicely located with plenty of sun beds and parasols, there is a bar by the pool with absolutely delightful staff.
We stayed there on a half board package and missed the simple but excellent food for the two days at the wedding and my wife’s birthday party. The Octopus was sensational!
This small and friendly hotel is part way up the mountain and not to difficult a walk, unless you have a problem with mobility, a comment in the visitors book referred to the incline as "heart attack hill", so be warned! But also remember it's worth it.
Don't go all that way without a trip to "Thira" and "Oia", you will be astounded by the beauty. Try also, the climb to the top of the mountain, it starts outside the Antinea Hotel, its well worth it but take plenty of water with you.
Happy holidays.
A & B Cannon

Antinea Hotel, Studios and Apartments: Great place for a really great holiday! by Chris Backhouse |

Well, what can I say? Just got back from a week at the Antinea and I still can't believe what a fantastic place it is!
When we initially approached the hotel in the coach I have to admit that I thought "uh oh, miles out of Kamari itself, half way up a mountain, what have we let ourselves in for?" I needn't have worried one bit.
Check in was easier than falling off the proverbial log. All we had to do was give our names and follow one of the hotel staff to the room. Our cases were brought to the room by the handyman.
Upon getting into the room, we were pleasantly surprised to see that yes, it did actually look like the room we'd seen when booking our holiday - this was beginning to look like an even greater holiday than we'd dare believe. An added bonus was the presence of a fridge for water, drinks etc - not bad when we'd booked half board. Also, the room had a small safe and aircon - both of which were free of charge, another bonus.
Once we'd unpacked we had a wander on to the pool bar and had a drink. We found that drinks prices were quite reasonable and that the service was fantastic. Then it was back to the room for a sit on the balcony before retiring to the sun loungers for an hour or so before getting ready for dinner.
Dinner was fantastic. It's served in a buffet style and there's something for everyone. Plenty of salad and vegetables along with some excellent hot food. I'm quite a fussy eater and I've absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Also, if you miss dinner or breakfast, then reception will ask chef to provide a cold plate or breakfast box, as long as you advise them the day before.
Breakfast was also on a buffet basis with choices of fresh fruit, cereals, bread, cake (honest! The Chocolate cake and madeira are very much recommended!) and cooked breakfast items - eggs either fried or mini omelette style and boiled, bacon or sausage.
Also, the complex is immaculate, the pool area being excellent for relaxing in the sun. The staff are the most friendly and helpful staff I've ever met at any hotel - literally nothing is too much trouble.
Any downsides I hear you ask? Well, the only one I can think of is that the hotel is perched on quite a steep hillside and has quite a few steps (although I believe that all areas can be reached by paths and ramps) so if you're not too good with hills or steps then it may not be the place for you.
Overall I'd say that the Antinea is an excellent place to stay. Kamari is a super village with very pleasant people and Santorini as a whole is just amazing.
