Aqua Hotel Onabrava: Short Break Trip for Wheelchair Bound Traveller by Peter Williams |
| Posted 13 May 2008 about a visit in April 2008 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
Checked out of the wonderful Aqua Hotel Onabrava in Santa Susana a few weeks ago. Went to visit the Catalonia Grand Prix. Booked about six months in advanced with DIY Trael so made some very good savings - £20 each pearson per night half board in this 4* hotel.
Found the hotel after a short while. The website maps let us down a little. The hotel sign is very poorly sighted. I just knew it was slightly after the railway station on the right hand side. I wish DIY Travel could email maps over to the customer when the final deposit is made.
I went with my friend who is disabled and in a wheelchair. Those wheelchair bound will know the problems that could arise when going to a hotel for the first time. However, I had done my homework before hand. We were booked a room on the ground floor with suitable wheelchair needs.
When we arrived we booked in very effortless (excellent reception staff) and made are way a short distance to the room. There are about five rooms adapted for wheelchairs. The rooms were perfect. Plenty of space in the bedrooms for a wheelchair to move around in and the bathroom had a shower with a seat for people in wheelchairs. Small detail - the sink height wasn't adjustable. The balcony was a let down. No view of anything apart from the next door hotel.
The hotel is totally accessible for wheelchairs; restaurant, lobby area, swimming pool, bar, games room. Everything apart from the indoor swimming pool (up a flight of stairs). Also the door leading from the hotel to the outside swimming pool is not automatic. Difficult when you're in a wheelchair.
Food is buffer style. Very strange some of the food. I can see why some people might complain. But as we were there for only 4 days we found it okay.
I must mention the location of the hotel. It's a little way outside of the tourist area (some would like that). Also, to get to the beach you have to cross the main road then use the underpass to go under the railway line. It's not too bad though. Don't let that put you off. If you can book this hotel cheap then you will have a real bargain. If it's expensive - then look elsewhere. I might come back to it next April? Happy holiday!

Aqua Hotel Onabrava: A decent hotel in a quiet area by Linda Mason 38 |

A lovely hotel.
I accept that the rooms would be large for two people but when you have a family of four they don't seem so big, however the room was adequate and was kept beautifully clean by the staff. Indeed the whole hotel was kept spotless from dawn to dawn!
The hotel was reasonably busy (at the weekend it was exceptionally busy with lots of Spanish peeps from Barcelona) and the weather was good but we had no problems getting a sunbed when we wanted one!
The animation team did their best with the daytime entertainment and also kept the children busy in the evening with the mini disco. With the exception of one night, all of the evening entertainment was first class.
The drinks prices were reasonable both soft and alcoholic and although the food itself was decent the hotplates do not keep it hot and invariably by the time you got back to the table it was pretty cold. There was however a good selection of food and I was pleased to see that they did not cater for the eggs and chips brigade.
The staff are all very helpful and the place runs like clockwork. On the whole it is a decent four star hotel and I would recommend it to anyone.

Aqua Hotel Onabrava: Nice Place by Anne Marie Bruce 1 |

Just back from a 2 week holiday. The hotel is lovely although the rooms are very basic. The hotel is full of Germans I think there were only about 6 couples that were English/Scottish. The food is not that good it is a buffett style dinner so there is always something you will like, however they mainly cater for the Germans and you will find weird things on the menu every night. The swimming pool area is nice not to busy as the beach is just across the Road. The water is freezing though!!!! All in it was a good holiday I don't think I would go back as the hotel is to far away from the Main Strip. Oh and one more thing the staff expect a tip for everything they do, when you buy a drink at the bar they hand you your change on a plate so that you will leave them something I would see the point if they were bringing it to your table but they weren't!!!!!
