Asturias is a very old building in keeping with the area around Sol. The room we had was very basic, but clean, with maid service every day of our seven night stay. There is only one lift (elevator to our US cousins ) but it was never over busy. Location was pretty noisy, but what do you expect in the heart of Madrid! It is central to all the sights and attractions in the area, Palace, Retiro, Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, etc. The breakfast is a typical continental one, but enough to set you up for the day. Waiting staff very polite, and attentive. If I was asked once, I was asked a dozen times each morning if I wanted "mas cafe"! One thing not made very clear is that each room has a safety deposit box which costs nothing to hire, but is coin operated, and every time you open it, you lose your 1euro! Still over the week, this is a whole lot less than the average cost of renting these. Reception staff were very helpful in ordering us a shuttle people carrier back to the airport, which only cost 20euro for both of us, a whole lot less, and a more pleasant experience than hiring a taxi! This hotel represents excellent value, and if you are prepared to look beyond the slightly tired appearance of its decor, you will not be disappointed. Will be back!
