Athenaeum: Great Central Location by Sonique |
| Posted 01 August 2005 about a visit in July 2004 | Overall rating: 9.7 |
We stayed at the Athenaeum in August 2004. This is a traditional London hotel where you are met from your taxi by the hotel doorman, who helps you out of the taxi, and sees you through to reception.
The rooms are somewhat on the small side, but are every bit 5 star luxury. The hotel doesn't have an actual bar, but instead has a traditional lounge, where you can sit, and have drinks served to you. The ladies toilets on the first floor are to die for. Visit, and you'll see what I mean.
The hotel is a short stroll away from the main areas of London. It takes around 10-15 minutes walk to get to the heart of London, which meant that we didn't need to get a taxi in the evenings.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a traditional London hotel, with the luxury of not staying in a 'chained' hotel. This is an individual and exclusive hotel, and is definitely a treat to stay in.
