Atlantis Palace: Excellent Hotel by Carol Oliver |
| Posted 13 August 2007 about a visit in July 2007 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
We're choosy about where we stay and had read alot of reviews about this hotel and were not disappointed. We stayed from 25 July for 10 nights and even though it was school holidays it was not crowded with kids.
The cleanliness of the hotel and rooms is first class. The food is to a very high standard but my picky daughter moaned that there should have been more children friendly food and lived on chips. There are 2 large pools and a baby pool which were never croweded. Although they say you can't reserve sunbeds there were selfish people who did, but it didn't matter as you could always get a bed. The hotel supplies mattresses and clean pool towels every day.
The staff are very nice and friendly, apart from one nasty little old waiter called manuel who moaned if you sat on one of his tables and it was half an hour before the restaurant closed, avoid the middle left hand side of the restaurant and you'll be fine. Everyone else was lovely, and so nice to the children. The maid did more than you would expect, made swan towels, left sweets in baskets and chocolates, folded the kids pyjamas.
Our room was a family room with a double bed and a sofa that folded out into another 2 single beds. We had plenty of wardrobe space for 4 of us, a good sized bathroom with bath, shower, 2 basins, wc & bidet. The room had a safe and an iron and ironing board on request. We have a balcony with table & chairs and a washing line. Even though our room was over the hotel lounge we never heard any noise. The rooms are air-conditioned.
The shows of an evening are good, some are better than others but I've seen alot worse. The Parrot Show and Reptile show were good and you can buy pictures of yourself holding them. The African Footprint show was very good.
The hotel has a large reception area with a nice seating area and card tables. It has a large cupboard full of games (packs of cards, chess, bingo etc) and there is a bar and piano too. It has a lovely flower arrangement and fountain, these are not important but it explains the granduer of the hotel. There is an internet room next to the reception, a shop, a doctor and a hairdresser. The restaurant is a good size and they have an outdoor seating area which is more relaxed than inside. The hotel lounge isn't that big so you do have to get in handy for the start of the show which is usually 20.30 or 21.30. After the show the evening is over, the bar is still open, but you may want to go out for more life! There is a pool bar/restaurant up the steps from the pool which also sells ice creams. There is a kiddie club which is in the right hand corner of the pool area, and there is also a gym on the right too. The hotel has a friendly animantion team and provides activities throughout the day if you want them (I go to relax so didn't take advantage).
The hotel runs a bus twice a day to the sand dunes, but when we were there it was too hot for the kids all day on the dunes so we just went to the beach across the road from the hotel which was OK, the kids were happy and that's all that matters.
The hotel allows you to charge everything to your room if you want to, so you don't have to carry cash around with you if you don't want to, you can just settle up at the end.
We noticed that the majority of guests were British (a good mix of English, Scots and Irish) with only a few Germans, Swiss and Spanish. The whole of Corralejo was very British, the free papers make you realise how many expats there are as the tradesman advertising and British too.
There is one main street (High Street) turn left out of the hotel and it runs along the top of the road. It has all the usual tourist shops, perfumeries, camera shops but there are a few others which are quite nice. There are loads of bars and restaurants but we were half board so only ate out a couple of times. La Tasca was nice and very popular. We also had breakfast in Penny Land which is in the next road to the hotel, as we sometimes couldn't make it for breakfast which is between 8 - 10am and dinner is between 7 - 10pm, good times really for a hotel restaurant. If you follow the main street down to the old town that's nice too and you can walk around the harbour. There is a ferry that takes you to Lanzarote in 12 minutes for more shopping if you want it. There are other boat trips available too.
The market is on twice a week and as far as holiday markets go it was one of the better ones I've been too. It is up by the water park. The kids managed to get most of their presents there so that was a bonus. There are loads of fake designer gear such as purses, watches, sunglasses, t shirts and perfumes. Why anyone would buy these fake perfumes is beyond me as you can get the real thing for a bit more. The market did have some nice bits too, such as bamboo bags and wooden items.
Coralejo doesn't have that much yet, but if you just want to get away from it all like we did then it's perfect. We loved the hotel so much that we stayed there most of the time. During our stay the windy island lost it's wind and it was very hot, even the locals were complaining, but we had the odd windy day which was lovely.
The hotel is a high quality hotel with excellent standards and I for one will definately return to this hotel again. The hotel and surrounding area has a ver mellow feel to it. The hotel is being taken over in October 2007 by the Blue Bay chain and will be renamed the Blue Bay Palace.
Enjoy your stay!

You cannot fault this hotel, it has everything, it's just sooooooooooo laid back, fab rooms (huge beds, massive bathrooms, air con & mini bars etc) & all kept spotlessly clean, all staff were really friendly & the choice of food breakfast & dinner was amazing. we have visited the resort before & always promised ourselves that we would 1 day stay @ The Atlantis Palace we were not disappointed, we will not stay anywhere else when we return.

Atlantis Palace: Fantastic Hotel by Maxine Atkinson |
| Posted 03 May 2004 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
The best hotel we have ever stayed in. Perfect location for all the restaurants in Corralejo. We checked out the other hotels around the area but nothing compared. Breakfast amazing, rooms beautiful, couldn't fault any of the facilities. We booked direct from Atlantis Hotels website (cut out the middle men agents) and booked only bed and breakfast which none of the agents will offer anyway. In our view you would be foolish to book any other hotel for the same money.
