Bahia: Excellent location - spacious apartments. Highly recommended ! by Marcus Jones |
| Posted 29 August 2006 about a visit in August 2006 | Overall rating: 9.4 |
We booked a two bedroomed apartment for one week in August.
There are two lifts which are great if like us you arrive with a pile of suitcases!
Upon arrival, Margarita (the lady in charge) greeted us and showed us around. Here's a tip - if you arrive and the front door is locked, press the bell for Apt 406 - which is where Margarita lives. She'll come down and sort everything out. Her English is a lot better than my Spanish !
The apartments are clean and tidy, and compared to a lot of other places, extremely spacious.
The kitchen was comprehensively equipped with a 4 hob gas cooker, grill / oven, a microwave, fridge/freezer and there was even a washing machine !
Each apartment has a TV, and there is a variety of local and international channels. Not sure about other languages were available (possibly German) apart from Spanish, but we used Sky News and BBC World News to keep an eye on what was happening back home.
One thing worth mentioning (if you have children who have a portable DVD player or electronics game of some sort). The TV sets have no AV inputs (scart or phono) so it's unlikely you will be able to connect anything to these particular sets. Anyway, the weather is always lovely so you really shouldn't be inside! Typical temperatures in the day is around 32 - 34 degrees C (August) and around 30 deg C in the night time.
The linen and towels are changed twice weekly by the friendly staff. There was no shortage of hot water, even towards the end of the evening (when a lot of hotels that use solar heated water tend to run out).
The main bedroom had a proper double bed, whilst the other bedroom had two single beds. The room with two single beds also had a patio door which accessed the balcony. The other patio door led from the large lounge / dining room onto the same balcony.
The lounge had a sofa which could fold down into a bed (we think) and two chairs. There was also a large pine dining table that could seat 6 people in comfort.
The best thing about these apartments (apart from the friendly people who live here and also run the place) is the location. It's about the best you can get - overlooking the main beach. Even in peak tourist season, there is plenty of room to sunbathe on the sand (a mere 15 metres from the apartments).
Each apartment has a balcony, although the rooms over the main entrance (down a side street) look across onto other apartments, the ones on the back of the building look across the bay.
Santa Eulalia is not a noisy resort. These apartments are above a restaurant - but dont let this worry you. It tends to go very quiet around midnight, so you can always be assurred of a good nights sleep.
The only real thing to point out is the lack of parking. Most of the town centre is reserved for residents (there is a parking scheme in operation). There are some metered parking spaces, but you wouldn't want to stay in one of those for too long (yes - there are traffic wardens).
If you do hire a car and need a place to park it overnight etc - then drive out of town towards Es Cana, then just before you leave the main built up area, you will find some open land between the larger hotels. This seems to have been adopted by locals and visitors alike as a free car park. We left our hire car there every day and night, and it was perfectly safe. It's about a 10 minute walk back to Bahia Apartmentos from this location, but you can do it along the waterfront (boulevard) which is very pleasant.
Overall, we were very pleased with Bahia, and are planning a return visit next year. Highly recommended !
