Our most recent visit to Balaia Golf Village was in September 2005. We stay there most years at this time, as we have timeshare there. Our experiences of staying there have always been excellent. It is a most attractive, peaceful place to stay, and because there are so many separate pools, one never gets the feeling that the place is crowded. The on-site restaurant 'A Varanda' is also excellent and now that there is also a super market at the entrance to the complex, there is everything to hand. The golf course and club house are also great. There is a bus stop just outside the complex with regular transport to and from Albufeira or eastwards along the coast. Balaia Golf Village also does transfers to and from Faro Airport, so a hire car is not essential. The nearest beach, 'Maria Luisa' is only five minutes walk away and the Santa Eulalia beach is also close by. In fact, we cannot speak highly enough of Balaia Golf Village.

An excellent neaby restaurant is 'The 3 Marias' - just a few minutes walk away at Torre da Medronheira (on the outskirts of Olhos d'Agua). The set tourist menu at this restaurant is varied, of excellent and very reasonably priced - in fact, the best value around. The family who run it are also extremely friendly and helpful. There is also a large modern Marachino supermarket with everything you might need on the approach to Olhos d'Agua.

In all, Balaia Golf Village is a superb location for spending a quality holiday in the Albufeira area of the Algarve.

Having had our second holiday at this complex, I can only say that the resort is of excellent quality, with only a fifteen minute walk to new Albufeira, five min walk to the most heavenly beach or a taxi ride away to the old town of Albufeira, costing only 5 Euro. We have just recently returned from our vacation (Sept 2002) and would certainly visit again. Nearly all of the appartments are privately owned, so I would guess it is quite difficault to holiday there unless you know of someone who owns.
The complex boasts a beautiful 9 hole golf course, a driving range, tennis courts, and plenty of swimmimg pools. The complex is peresently expanding, with more appartments with some shops, hairdressers, possibly chinese restaurant etc opening soon. There are some mini markets only a few mins walk away but they can be quite expensive. The cheapest is Marachino supermarket which is 15 min walk from the complex. If you need a taxi back with your shopping, you will have to order one from the town which may cost as much as 8 euro.
Relaxing is a must on this complex, as it is peaceful and well run. Two restaurants we can recommend are as follows. Martins Rest typically Portugeese (Turn right out of the main gate, walk five mins,on the left) and Tiffany's English Sports Bar (Turn left out of main gates, 5 min walk, on the left). There are several other bars/rests in the vicinity of Tiffany's.
In the New town (15 min walk) we can recommend The Kilt & Kelt, Scottish rest and Bar. If you want really good English food, this is the place to go. Many of the dishes served here consist of goods imported from England/Scotland such as square sausage, black pudding, kippers etc, and the prices are not bad either, full english breakfast 3.50 euro. Getting back to the complex, there is a fine bar and restaurant near the main reception. Food Theme nights happen virtually every night of the week. Bar prices are reasonable with a beer (SuperBock) 40cl costing 2.50 euro, although as with everything you can get everything cheper at the town bars.
