Barbados Review: Barbados

Barbados is excellent for those wanting a largely peaceful holiday with facilities as and when you need them. I was critical at first, yet on reflection this is largely unfounded. It was probably just me being bitter and twisted, nothing new!
The island is not cheap full stop. Even with the US dollar rate being good at the moment, don't underestimate cash needed (like me). Got by, but credit card found itself with a large hole in it when i got back!
However, there are cheaper places to go and if you are more in the know you could plan it a lot better i guess. St Lawrence Gap is cheaper than St James, for example (as a rule).
The island is beautiful and the natural beauty of the beaches and fauna has to be seen to be believed, it is breathtaking. Oh yes, and if you look down at grids (as you do, yeah right!) you will see they are made in sunny Stockport, ah bliss! The beaches are fabulous, is there anywhere in the world that can beat the beaches in Barbados?
Nightlife is fairly low key and can be slow to get going, there is a long dinner period in Barbados and everyone seems to head out a little later to avoid the heat and humidity. Bajans are also alcoholics and seem to love Guinness, which puzzled me. I happened to be there on St Patrick's night and i could not believe my eyes - seriously - not one local was drinking ANYTHING else other than Rum and Guinness, that is the TRUTH.
I won't say too much but other nights such as the Fish Fry at Oistins (every Friday Night) and Harbour Lights show (every Monday night) are well worth a visit, among others such as Bajan Roots n Rhythms, but you have to see for yourself otherwise i might spoil it.
As long as you have plenty of money to hand, and an open mind to trying new things out, you cannot go wrong with Barbados. I also found a new favourite food -Spicy Chicken Roti's from Cheffete - absoulute class!
Barbados is a first class holiday destination - it must be in the top 5 of 'places to see' in the world!
Just another word, the two main beers, which are Banks and Carib, are somewhat mediocre, but drinkable.
