 Barcelo Tucancun Beach: Worst experience of my life! by S Borowski |

On Sunday March 2, 2008, my boyfriend and I were accused of staying at Barcelo Tucancun Resort. We were forced to pay $125 USD each ($247 total) or management would call the cops. We attempted to explain our situation, but management refused to listen to us.
On Saturday March 1, 2008 we attended a wedding on Isla Mujeras. We stayed on the island Saturday night. The following morning we stopped by Barcelo Tucancun to say goodbye to our friends from the wedding.
When we arrived, luggage in tow, numerous vans were unloading guests and no bell-hop commented when we walked in the door. However, two hours later we were stopped exiting the facility and accused of staying at the all-inclusive resort the prior night.
The manager was unbelievably rude and accusatory. He did call our friend’s room and spoke Spanish very quickly, which we couldn’t understand, he abruptly hung up the phone and said to us, ‘they don’t know you.’ We were shocked and made him call our friends again. My boyfriend spoke with our friends explaining what was going on for at least three minutes, the manager got back on the phone and abruptly hung up telling us again, ‘they don’t know you.’ I was very confused and scared at this point. I still don’t understand how we could have a three minute conversation with someone who doesn’t know us. I felt the manager was taking advantage of the language barrier and lied to us.
The manager then said the only way he would consider our story was if his bell-hop saw us come in with our luggage. And when asked the bell-hop said he had not seen us enter with our luggage, which was not a shock. The manager also said he would check his security cameras, which he did NOT do. I signed the credit slip under duress. I feared if I did not sign the slip, the resort will still call the cops. Now I am stuck paying the bill with my credit card company because I signed the slip, even though it was signed under duress.
I wouldn't recommend this horrible place to my worst enemy.
FYI: Go to Playa del Carmen....it was FANTASTIC :)

First time ive been outside europe and first time also all inclusive, have to say this place gave me the appetite to try both again in future, not to mention the location itself!
The staff in Tucancun are very friendly, note my mates comment below, tip them and the drinkes will actually taste of alcohol even if the americans are wooooping after one glass of the weekest cocktail!
Value for money this could not be beaten but if i came back to cancun would try a diff hotel !

This is the first time I have travelled outside of Europe and gone all inclusive and this place was wicked! I had the best time ever here!
The hotel has the choice of three restaurant and an extra one when they have their theme nights. Mexican food, Italian and general buffet style.
Lots of rooms, all clean. Positioned away from the clubs and bars so you are able to sleep. However, only a five minute bus ride away from the main stretch.
The food staff are great. Be sure to say hello to little Roberto and Carlos.
Tip the staff in the restaurant and the bar every three to four days and you will see them rush of their feet for you. Plus the beers become stronger! We did notice drinks became weak as the week went over.
The hotel staff know what clubs are the best to go to on what night so listen to them. They offer wrist bands for like 33 dollars about £24. Thats your entry and all your drinks free in the clubs and a bus ride there/

Had a brilliant time here. Went May 03 for 2 weeks. Hotel was spotless. Staff were really friendly and knew us by name within the first few days. Rooms were good, I had a lagoon view and my parents had a beach view, which was stunning with a balcony. The food was wonderful especially breakfast. I felt they catered for everyone, they had an Italian and Mexican restaurant with a buffet restaurant which changed it's food theme everynight. There were 3 pools one for the teenagers with music and games etc then another pool more like a family pool and the third had mainly adults around it. If you're not satisfied with any of the pools then just walk down the steps to the beach, it was beautiful took my breath away. They had a pool table and table tennis in a side room by the pools, the equipment was often broken but it was open all day until late at night and was something for the kids to do whilst their parents had a drink or finished dinner. I'm not too sure about the entertainment, didn't see much off it but what I did see was good. The hotel was situated away from the nightlife which was good because no noise, but it was only a 10 minute bus ride into town. The shopping complex oppostie I would not recommend, it was very nice but very expensive, but then I found that everywhere I went was expensive for what it was. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and just wish I could go back!! I was really sad to leave, best two weeks of my life!
