| Barcelona Review: Barcelona/Hotel Peninsular | | Written by Suelees on 05 Apr 2003 about a trip in Mar 2003.
| | We loved it and have just returned from our second trip. A really buzzing city within easy reach of the airport (20 mins) used by a number of 'no frills' airlines which means cheap. There are a good mix of locals and toursits from all over the world. A million things to do or just relax, take in the ambience and eat and drink in one of the innumerable establishments. Barrio Gotico off east side of Las Ramblas is a maze of medieval streets/buildings with El Raval/Barrio Chino off west side. This is a more down to earth area with some local characters and local bars and eatieries. Don't miss the works of Gaudi, particularly Parc Guell and La Pedrera and of course the Sagrada Familia which is breathtaking. I have to comment on the hotel in the overview as it's not in the list of accommodation. Hotel Peninsular is an old converted convent just off Las Ramblas in carre de Sant Pau (opp Metro Liceu) which has retained much of it's character. Basic rooms but the most wonderful inner courtyard with plants hanging down over the wrought iron balconies and brilliantly restored dining room (breakfast only). |
