The Bedford is a fairly small "Boutique" style hotel in central Manhattan, just One block from Grand Central station.(Airport bus, JFK and Newark terminates here).
We booked a standard room which was spacious and clean, with a small "kitchen alcove" which had a full size fridge, hot plates, kettle and coffee maker.(Room upgrades are available)
There is just a small reception area and no bar or restaurant, although there is an Italian restaurant attached which provides "room service".
Everything works! Good air con, no waiting for lifts, free room safe.
There are a few decent places nearby for breakfast. We tried Blooms just 20 metres away, the Eggs Benedict was good!
It's about 10 mins walk to Times Sq, Empire state etc and the nearest subway is at grand central, 2 mins away.
The area is very quiet and safe, yet only a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of mid town Manhattan.
A couple of nearby restaurants are worth a mention, Fagiolini. (lexington/39th) and an excellent Spanish place, El Potril ( 2nd Ave /38th).
The attached Italian Restaurant has a good reputation be we didn't try it ourselves, although it always seemed busy, especially early evening.
