I recently stayed at the belavista avenida, I actually thought it is in a perfect spot, in the middle of the old town and the strip, and with 3 beaches within easy reach.
The accomodation i thought was very good we stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was huge, the pool was lovely, the bar was ok, the food was ok, 2 of the bar staff were lovely, and the owner and his wife never spoke to us the whole 2 weeks they were very miserable and if they were to smile it would crack their faces.
Albufeira is a lovely place, the weather is great, the food is lovely, if you go to the old town make sure you go to the cave restraunt, they have the best steak i have ever tasted.
Its not that cheap in the algarve, roughly about the same as back home. perfumes are not that cheap. and if you stay at the belavista avenida make sure you take a kettle and toaster very basic supplies. but all in all had a lovely time here and would go back again.

myself and 4 children stayed at these apartments for a 2 week holiday last year, the rooms are basic but enough for what we needed, but we did find though that we were only supplied with 4 items of crockery etc, and BEWARE it does show on the tele that there is a kettle in these self catering rooms but there isnt so dont forget to pack a travel kettle.
the night time entertainment is very limited and the man behind the bar is a bit of a grump(kids view) the food in the bar is very basic too, we did lose one of our suitcases and had a lot of trouble getting the rep help us to find it, i had to most of the phone calls to portugal airport myself which was quite frustrating, we did eventually get it back 5 days later.
the strip in albufeira is excellent, its about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the belavista avenida but well worth it, there are many bars, cafes, shops etc and reasonably priced. the beach here is clean but does get packed watch out for the waves, even in september it was very hot 35 degrees late afternoon so dont forget your suntan lotion.
I would go back to this resort but possibly to a different hotel or apartments.

Have stayed at these apartments 3 times now. The apartments are very spacious and have everything you need. Kept very clean,maids came every day. Pool area great especially with kids. Pool bar ok for snacks etc although a bit pricey. Staff at pool bar not too bad better in the day,the owner was a bit rude though, had the television turned on every night and just sat in front of it with the volume turned up & kept switching the pool table lights off when you had sat down too have a drink! A great base too start from though as these apartments are in the middle of both old town & strip.

Have recently returned from a stay at the above apartments (Oct 02). The apartments are situated right in the middle of the resort half way between the "Old Town" and "The Strip" for anyone that knows Albuferia they are located directly opposite the "Watch" roundabout on the road that runs straight through Albufeira.
The Apartment complex itself had plenty to offer with good size pool and a smaller pool for the kids, there is a pool bar that serves drinks and snacks all day long and also an attached restaurant that offers evening meals. The staff in the bar and restaurant were excellent really friendly and happy to help (This always makes you go back for another) The complex also offers tennis and mini golf at a fee payable at reception.
The apartments themselves were simple and clean. The one we stayed in and the others we saw all had a TV, cooker, kettle and a toaster, they were all cleaned daily by the merry maids who dont come too early so gives you a chance to sleep that hangover off.
For the beach the free bus service that the apartments offer is a must........... Its not to far to walk 15/20 mins to fishermans beach or 30/40 mins to Montechoro beach but the bus runs every half an hour and drops you off and picks you back up at varios points running between the old town and the strip.
Directly outside reception there is a small cafe bar and newsagents, there is a large supermarket 20 meters from the reception which was very cheap and sold all your necessities.
Out of reception and down to the main road you have old town 15 mins to your right where you will pass a large shopping mall, Macdonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut (Which are a 5 min stroll from reception). Turn left along the main road and you will arrive at "The Strip" here there is something for EVERYONE............ every manner of pub, club, cafe, restaurant and shop you could ever desire.
All in all the Bellavista Avenida is a good base for your holiday in Albufeira situated right between old and new so you can take your pick, the beach is quite a distance but there is the pool with plenty of loungers and space to sun bath and if you do want to go to the beach the free bus is ideal (We took it everyday). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would definately return. One bad point is that anyone situated in a room near the main road (Bottom of the complex) may experience some noise from the road.......... Oh and yes the roads watch out for the drivers out there they are the worst I have seen of all the countries I have visited.
