My partner and i stayed a week at the Berjaya Hotel Mount Royal. When we arrived we were shown to our room, which we were not very happy with, the bedspread had holes in it, the skirting boards were rotten and coming away from the walls,the shower curtain was dirty and had holes in it,not a very pleasant room at all.We decided there and then before we unpacked to go to reception and ask to be moved to another room.
When we got to reception we said we were not happy with the room we were allocated. We had a little wait while another room was prepared.We were taken to our new room and it was lovely. There was a king size bed or perhaps bigger,a hair dryer, bottle opener fitted to bathroom wall,a bath and a shower a fridge with mini bar and bottled water.The balcony overlooked the swimming pool,we were very happy with this room.To be fair to the hotel they were refurbishing the rooms as and when possible.
Our room was cleaned everyday,clean towels everyday and the sheets changed nearly everyday.The room boys put fresh flowers in our room and they were polite and curteous and always had a smile on their faces.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and was pleasantly surprised by the choice of food offered for breakfast.There was fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit, toast, croissants,butter, jams, eggs, sausages,tomatoes plus all the different sri lankan food ie,curries stringhoppers etc,there was also cake,tea, coffee, chocolate,whatever we wanted we only had to ask.There was a buffet for dinner one evening which was very good at a set price, personally we would have liked a few more of these.The a la carte menu could do with a few more choices on it.
The swimming pool was a good size ,starting at three foot deep up to eight foot deep.There were two pool attendants working alternate days.We were provided with clean towels,sun loungers and we were well looked after ,there was also a childrens pool.The location of the hotel is next to a railway track which is used daily and often,we didnt find this to be a problem as between ten oclock in the evening and six oclock in the morning they stopped running.Also to get to the beach we had to cross the railway track ,but there is a walkover bridge from the hotel gardens.
All in all i would say good value for money.One thing i must comment on is how well we were looked after by everyone there, nothing was to much trouble and everyone was really freindly.
