We were really looking forward to going to Cancun, and to the Blue Bay Club Hotel. Somewhere different, and friends had been there years before for their honeymoon so we thought we were going to have a great time! (yeah right)
Even checking in we found the reception staff rude, but it got worse!
We had paid double what other brits had paid for their holiday, and we had a pokey little room with no balcony, and from the small windows we had a view of the road, whilst some of the other brits had huge rooms with balconies overlooking the beach, mini bars in their rooms and jaccuzis!
At least we were in the main hotel building, some others who were less fortunate were in the block accross the road which was mostly inhabited by the entertainment staff from the hotel.
The swim up bar promised in the brochure was beside the smaller accomodation block and was boarded up. The main pool was ok but the bar was perched right next to it so one whole secton of the pool was in shadow by early afternoon.
The meals were in buffet format and badly done, most nights you really struggled to make a balanced meal from the food on offer. even the mexican themed night was a let down (and I love traditional mexican food) People could be seen outside the hotel on a nightly basis waiting on their delivery from pizza hut! - Not what you expect in an alleged 5 star all inclusive resort hotel!
We complained about our room and were given the brush off from hotel staff, only when we complained to our rep did we get a move to a room with a balcony.
Car hire is not recommended as the companies do not have insurance for their customers (something else we didnt know before we arrived, and we always hire a car on hols)
The area surrounding the Blue Bay Club is very run down and if you enjoy walking I would suggest catch the courtesy bus to the sister hotel which is approx, 10 mins walk away from the main Hotel Zone and then wander about to your hearts content.
I would not recommend the Blue Bay Club, truth be told I would not go to Cancun again, even if it was free, it is run down, and dirty, lots of hotels are undergoing major re-fit work so who knows, maybe in 4 - 5 yrs it will have improved again?!?
We were so dissappointed by our holiday that we took a last minute 10 day break to the Canaries which we enjoyed far more, we went 5 star all inclusive and never went hungry, hired a car and explored and all for a fraction of the cost of our Cancun disaster!
