Blue Key: Blue Key-good value accomodation by Andrew Lewis 2 |
| Posted 25 March 2005 about a visit in November 2005 | Overall rating: 9.0 |
Background: Christmas was approaching. Husband and wife fancied getting away from the kids. Prague was the chosen destination, for its Chrimbo market, the drinking and eating, the sites, the history and general bonhomie. Flights booked; next task accommodation. Thorough search made over the internet and for the price we wanted to pay the Blue Key looked reasonable value. It was. Accommodation: The hotel was very homely, not soulless and modern. As a building it looked in to its courtyard more than out. The staff all seemed to speak excellent English and were pleasant and helpful. When we arrived we were upgraded from a double to a suite. This included a comfy double bed in a reasonably large bedroom, a separate roomy lounge with colour TV, some cooking facilities and fridge, and a lovely shower room. Outlook was to the main street and although we had read of noise problems that was not our experience. Breakfast was included in the price and there was plenty of choice in a continental style including a range of drinks, pastries, hams eggs, fruit, cereal and so on. We did not feel hungry until well into the afternoon. Location: Not knowing Prague Blue Key looked to be central. It was not at the hub of things but was great for us, if a 20 minute walk at night from the main bars in old town if we did not want to catch the tram home (which goes right past the hotel). But there were lots of bars near by and around the corner we had, for less than £40, one of the best meals we have ever had. It is just about walkable to everywhere, the castle, the old town and Charles Bridge is around the corner. And there is a main tram service stop around the corner. Conclusion: Prague is a fairytale city and the Blue Key was located in a bit that suited us well. Historic buildings were all around. It was not “central” but was accessible. The external photo looks unexciting, do not worry about it. Would I stay there again? YES. Postscript: The only bad news was we stayed for 3 nights, not enough, and they do the fourth free as an offer.
