I went to the blue star in jan 05 with my farther for the first time although I had been to puerto rico many time before and never had a bad holiday. In January I reported that these apartments are basic but spacious and clean, and said I would not have a problem going again. So I did.

In November 2005 I went to the Blue Star, this time with the wife. Who there is a problem is not the easiest of people in the world to get on with.

That in mind I decided to ask for a room 8th floor which sounds strange as the place is full of steps like every where else in puerto Rico, But these apartments go down the hillside not up, so the 8th floor is the first floor by the reception and also the nearest floor to the way out. (LESS STEPS)

ONCE AGAIN I COULD NOT FAULT THE ROOM OR THE STAFF, we had a great time.
If I have one little criticism is the TV can work out pricey, but who really cares.

The bus stop is 20 mtrs away and the europe centre is about 150 metres away.

These apartments are the Ideal base for your stay. There is no entertainment, (plenty at the barbacoa) there is a bar that serves light snacks. The pizza is fine.
24 hour reception although thay stop taking travellers checks at 10pm, keep this in mind if you are arriving late.

If you would like a quiet drink in a very freindly bar try pickwicks bar,Pete and Carla are very friendly and it's great to have a chat.

At the Blue Star there is also a small supermarket which I think is open until 11pm.
If you want a 5 star hotel go elsewhere.

IF YOU WANT GOOD CLEAN ACCOMODATION AT A GOOD PRICE, YOU WILL FIND IT HERE.

I stayed @ the Blue Star apartments in August 2003. The accommodation was basic, clean and a good base for the Europa centre, close enough to the centre but not so close that you can hear all the noise from the pubs coming out. Didnt eat there so couldnt comment on food. Taxi rank handy if we wanted to go down to the main centre, which we did on the odd occasion as the Europa was a great place for food and drink! (Especially Picasso restaurant and Cafe Mambo). Keeps you fit if you want to go down to the main beach, ok walk down but not recommended to walk back up!!! Staff were friendly and helpful. Would say these apartments were value for money.

i have just returned home from the Blue Star 21/3/05 and found may stay there quite plesent,
the appartments are a good size and offer a large balcony or terrace, the room was over all clean and tidy when we arrived and the maids popped in and out during the week, i would recomend the Blue star if you are wanting an appartment you can stay at that isnt going to chage the earth and offers a place to stay (because a place to stay is what you get as there is no entertainment provided on the night)
I found the staff at the blue star very kind and they will always try and meet your demands and problems (if any occour) to the best they can.
i didnt check the pool out in the day time but when i strolled by i didnt look that bad. i would stay that these appartment are great for a place to stay if you just want a room thats deacent and being that close to the Europa centre made it good for getting all your bits and bobs for the week and going to eat out.
I would say that we go what we paid for (even thought the lift is a bit shabby)but dont expect it to be any 5 star appt though

WARNING ON BOAT TRIPS FROM THE EUPOPA CENTRE: if you go into the Europa centre (near the tennis courts and kids trampolines) and are wanting to book a day out DONT go to the shop called "wow" (and it said something else but i cant remember) because they ripped us off, they say that you can get the parasending and jet ski cheaper if you go on a day trip, this day tip was suposed to costs 38 euros consist "a boat trip around the coast, hoasted by a girl from east midlands then a stop off for the jet ski/ parasending/ you are also supposed to get a banana and boat trip thrown in and scuba diving THEN.. you were ment to go back on board for a buffet and bar service for the rest of the trip WELL THAT WAS A BIG FAT LIE......... me and my partner only wnet on the trip for the parasending and the jet ski and once were were allready on board and had set sail they told us that the parasending was canceled but then i was to late to get off, so we thought we will give it ago any way THEN.. we were told that all other activities were charged at a small price but it wast such as small price when we found out, BUT WE DID IT ANY WAY JUST TO TRY IT OUT so we went on jet ski suposedly for 15 minutes but you only got to go around 3 cones 5 times and the banana boat and scuba diving that was suposed to be free was cancelled "what a suprise" then on board the ship the so called buffet was a scabby bit of chickent that i wouldnt of even fed to my cat and a rassion of pasta but there wasnt even enought left for me..... and the free beers was the cheapest beers that we had ever seen (later that day we looked at the price of the at the supermarket and it was 45 cent per 2 cans which is about 35p for 2 cans CHEAP AND NASTY, i hope you dont book any trip with this man he will cheat you otu of loads especiall if your in a group (there was only 2 of us and it cost us over 100 euroes WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT BOOK WITH THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also you have to go to the water park near maspalomas its fab..... you can get there by bus no. 70 for only 1.50 euroes each (better then 20 euroes in taxi) they run every 40 mins from the bus station in the centre you cant miss it....

Blue Star: needs a facelift (and thats not the scenic one) by Burnie

These Apts were of a basic standard with a bathroom (complete with bath although ive heard that they are being replaced with showers) a bedroom with ample cupboard space and a lounge complete with small kitchenette. The room has a large safe that can only be opend by a pin number that you pick so you can leave all sorts in it with complete confidence. The apartment had a large balcony and depending on where you are top or bottom ( design is blocks of apts two high ) the lower one ( even numbers ) gets shade on the balcony from the apt above (odd numbers ) . The balcony is so large that you still get sunshine on the lower ones as well as shade late into the afternoon, this suited me but others may not want the shade so ask for an odd number.
If you are unfit this is not the place for you (probably not the resort for you either with the hills) The Blue Star Apts are built on a hillside with the reception on the top (9th level) and the blocks of Apts progressing down the hill below to level 1. These different levels are accessed by a scenic lift at one side and a lift from the Pool area on level 4. On our final morning the scenic lift broke down and we had to use the other lift from the pool area. As I was one level below and not too far away from the pool, this was no great hardship but had I been down on level 1 it would have been a real backbreaker, as I did not see a lift that went to the levels below the pool apart from scenic elevator . Depending what level you are on you will get some superb views over the ocean but the lower the level the poorer the view.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the cleaners worked hard all day keeping the large complex clean. The fair sized swimming pool, like the rest of the complex looks like its ready for a facelift and good lick of paint would work wonders for the place . The Pool bar was ok but prices a bit high with 3.5 euro for a pint , as a result it was never too busy and had no atmosphere.
The resort its self is still a great place for a holiday , it was November and 82 degrees, clear blue skys and only 4 hours from the UK, what more can I say.
There you have it then . I have to finish by putting the review into perspective, I only paid a couple of hundred quid each for the pair of us and as such it would be unfair to slate the Blue Star . I feel I got value for money but probably would not book it again.
anyone from the Blue Star is reading this there are a few simple cosmetic changes that could be made to improve your profile ;- a lick of paint and spruce the place up, some form of flower beds or other feature on the balconies ( a look across at the neighbouring Altmar which may not be much different from |Blue Star on the inside but looks much better). There are four poles outside reception that look like they were once flag poles and would enhance first impressions if they flew flags again. Finally do something with the pool bar area drop the prices and try to get some atmosphere.

completely agree with lisa's review..lovely apartment, just not in the best of places if you want to be "amongst" it.staying at the bottom of the valley would be much better (nearer the centro commercial)
