Having been a client of Cala Vinas for over twenty, yes twenty, years I am due there agoin in Octiober to what was always my home to home.
Unfortunatly, some friends have returned to say that the hotel appears to be 90% all inclusive(something that is ruining this island) and that everyong is standing stying to get the included rubbish drinks, and that the normally contented bar staff have totally lost interest in this new breed of client.
ALL glasses used are plastic, and the normally delightful pool side eating area has no longer a proper menue but only the cheep give aways that are offered to the all inners.
I have no objection to this type of hotel, but I do not want to return there to fine this is even 50% of the clients without at least being warned.
I hear the staff are now `very very discontented and uninterested in every way, gone are the days of the HOTEL FORTE GROUP under the leadership of SENIOR SAVLO....those were the days my friend....but they did end...unfortunatly...would wove to hear from someone befor I decide to return.

My Wife and I have just returned from the Hotel Cala Vinas (12 - 26 June 2004) after our 4th holiday in a row there. Until now, we couldn't have faulted the hotel apart from a little friction caused by the mix of half board and all inclusive guests but, Oh boy, what a difference this year!

The hotel has now geared up for the all inclusive holiday makers and there are differences! Gone is the bottled wine in the restaurant, staff numbers have been reduced and the entertainment which was never top rate is now far worse than before.
Food quality is not as good although it is still acceptable but, the range of food available is less than last year. Although the hotel was 75% full during our stay, only 50% of the buffett section was in use at any one time causing long queues, especially on Football nights.
So, here it is in a nutshell, be prepared to get your wine and drinks for dinner from the Alhambra Bar before going into the restaurant. The wine is awfull and is dispensed from a pump giving white, rose and red which are all chilled (Have you ever drunk chilled red wine, it's awful!). There is less choice of food and oh yes, they have introduced the Wristband for all inclusive guests so you get tagged for the duration of your stay.
The wristbands don't actually work as a lot of the staff seem to ignore them and give the half board guests free drinks anyway. Some HB guests even offer to pay and sometimes the money is taken, other times it is not so take your chances if you're HB.
Apart from that, the hotel is still good value for money with all inclusive holidays available for GBP250 per week but, we will not be going back. Time to move on!
Oh, by the way, the staff are generally good but watch out for Mr Happy at the pool bar, you'll know him when you see him. We were lucky as we are known by the staff now but even we got blanked on a few occcassions by Mr Happy!
