Calabona: great hotel by Yvonne Layzell |

The hotel was great. Alghero hotels tend to be expensive so for the money, so for other euro destinations, i would expect to pay around £80 a night for this level of comfort (we paid around £130 a night). but, we also stayed in a hotel on the other side of town that was E100 and that was awful (The Oasis).
So, the hotel was extremely clean. Check in was smooth and the staff all spoke several languages and were very helpful. We didnt eat there apart from breakfast, which consisted of cereals, bread and cheese and ham. It seems you dont tend to get anything cooked for breakfast in italy at this level of hotel.
the room was good. quite large with a balcony overlooking the pool. Pool was very large and clean.
the walk into the old town was a pleasant 15minute stroll along the seafront so location is perfect, as its very quiet and central without being in the middle of all the noise. we had a hire car so not sure what transport links are like.
All in all, we really liked the hotel and would definately return. the decor is all dark wood and tiles, and whilst it hasnt been refurbished in many many years, its in good condition. if you like modern of any sort, then you probably wont like this hotel.

Calabona: Super Hotel by Dc |

Excellent location 15 mins walk along the seafront to the old town. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms on third floor have great views across the bay to Cappo Caccia and the very inviting pool. You can see the sun setting over the lighthouse in spectacular fashion. Breakfasts under the marquee in the garden during summer months - June onwards. The rooms are decorated 70's style, but very clean and cosy for a couple.
It's a bit of a walk into Alghero centre (perhaps 1000m and takes around 15 mins) with a few inclines on the way. This can be hard going in the heat. But, if you are happy to do so, it can be a very pleaseant walk along the promenade, plus there's a bar or two on the way if you need a pit stop. Taxi's were a bit hard to come by, unless you asked the hotel to arange them.
We've stayed there twice and would definitely stay there again.
