Calan Blanes Apartments: Late Deal by Kevin Shanley |
| Posted 09 May 2004 | Overall rating: 9.3 |
Never been to Menorca before so we only had information given to us from friends who had visited the island in the past. Reports where good so we booked a late deal through Thomas Cook with named acomadation, then found that there was no review available for these apartments. So off we went Friday 30th April 2004, to the unknown. All went to plan and on arrival we were not disappointed, check in at the desk wasn't the fastest but this could be down to it being the first day of the season and staff were a bit dis-organised. Good job we were off the coach first. The apartment was found very well maintained and all equipment in good working order, TV but only Eurosport and CNN News in English, but who wants TV on holiday anyway. No A/C but there is a ceiling fan in the seperate bedroom, and as the temperature was not that hot we didn't need it. Wardrobes and drawers are plentiful, more than we have experienced anywhere else. Each apartment has a terrace or balcany overlooking the pool and all blocks are three storey stairs access.
There is entertainment provided every day by Thomas Cook reps to cater for all age groups which is great for families. Hotel staff are very helpful and are at hand at all times. In all the accomadation was well above our expectations and I would recommend the Calan en Blanes Apartments to anyone.
Although there is only a very small beach about 200 m from the complex there isn't much there, and it is shared by the Calan Blanes Hotel (no relation to the apartments) and I would think it unable to cope in high season. Not much else for that matter but a 15 minute stroll takes you into Los Delfines and Calan Forcat were all the bars and restaurants are. There is plenty to keep the kids entertained and adults too. In the opposite direction there is the old Capital of Menorca - Ciutudella which is a must but don't walk it get the bus, it takes about 10 mins. Car hire is recommended to see all the ather Island sites, but shop around, don't book through the reps, it only cost us 108 Euros plus fuel for seven days hire inc CDW. Avis etc. charge 31 euro's per day.
All in all this was a very good place to stay, and certainly value for money.
