Ermones beach

Well I've finally gotten round to adding my review!! As I said before there was a party of 14 adults and kids (Aged 3,6,7, 12,13,15 and 17) Hung about a lot at the airport on arrival, couldnt find a Sunstar rep until somebody guided us to the Lord travel desk where we met the famous George! We had our own mini bus to the hotel which was nice so straight there with no stop offs. Bit of a shock when we arrived, lots of very steep roads and the bungalows are staggered down the side of the mountain. Our rooms were about half way down (267) and the rest of the party were along the same footpath. We tried the steps and the cable car but most of the time walked up the roadway as it wasnt as taxing on the calf muscles! The beach was not for kids and we found it a bit grotty but a few of the adults, including me, used to go down there to catch the rays till about 4 o/clock then head up to the top to meet the others and cool off in the pool, which I found to be a bit noisy to spend all day around. The kids all loved the pool though and the adults seemed to have a good time up there too.
My one big gripe would be the condition of the sunbeds both around the pool and on the beach. A lot of the ones around the pool (They were the white plastic type similar to the ones that you buy in Homebase) were cracked and had broken bars and some had the backrests missing. The ones on the beach were mostly the goldish colour aluminium with blue or green nylon covers and most of them had seen better days.
The food was fine. What people must remember is that the staff are working on a very low budget and feeding 100s of people a day, at the same time trying to vary the menu on a daily basis. What you also have to remember is that because the hotel is providing 3 meals a day, those chefs and cooks are constantly cooking and preparing food from 7 o/clock in the morning until about 9 o/clock at night! I used to work in a school kitchen and believe me it is bloody hard work catering for 80-100 people just providing lunch! I take my hat off to them, the food was brilliant and there was a lot of choice and some of the dishes were lovely ( My favourite was the chicken in caribbean sauce, or something like that, it was awesome and I went back for seconds!!) There was a different theme in the restaurant most nights, which again took time to arrange, there was even a jelly waterfall in there one night!! Always pasta and rice available and bolognese, different potato dishes and some nicely prepared desserts (My favourite was the baclava - the flaky pastries soaked in syrup- mmm!!) Always jelly and ice cream too.
The rooms were very basic. In ours there was me and my hubby and my 2 kids (13 & 17!!) who had to sleep in the bunk beds!! Just one fairly large room with all 4 beds in the same room. A large entrance lobby which housed all the wardrobes and storage space and a fridge, and a large bathroom. The bathroom floor used to get soaked every time we used the shower as the curtain was not long enough and didnt stretch the whole length of the bath and could have done with a new shower head as it used to spray everywhere except downwards!! The bathroom was also a bit grotty and reckon it was time for a refurb. The balcony was nice and big and the view from ours was awesome, I am going to try to add some pictures later. The air con was the best I have ever come across, we used to leave ours on constantly and it was always ice cold, a couple of times we woke up in the night shivering!! Also, because of the way the buildings were facing they stayed quite cool as the sun never actually shon down into them at all.
George, the hotel rep was a lovely man. The bar staff were ok once they got to know you, the restaurant staff were indifferent! Reception ladies were very helpful and spoke very good english (As did George)
Any thing else you need to know just ask and I will try to help.
All in all we had a great week, 2 weeks would have been too much as there is not enough around the hotel to do, the resort of Ermones consists of about 4 hotels, a bar, a restaurant and a small shop at the bottom of the hill and a car and bike hire.
Aparently there are 30% English people on average in the hotel the rest is made up of Germans, Italians some French I think and a few others.
All in all we had a good time, but I dont think I would return to Ermones. The world is too big a place!! (Although I've been to Fuerteventura 3 times, make of that what you will!!)
Pictures to follow.................

Just returned yet again from the Ermones Beach Hotel. Booked it as a last minute as we had been there last year. This is our experience.

When we got to the hotel everyone else was shocked!!! Steep and all the bungalows dropping down the hillside all the way to the beach. I think the expression "No way Jose" sprang to people's minds, a feeling shared by quite a few of the people who came with us. Everyone thought there are no facilities.

We were told by a porter whose English was bad at best that he would be taking our suitcases to the bungalows and that we could get into his van if we did not like walking. We did as we knew from last year!

The rooms are basic and not 4* BUT had airconditioning and a little fridge

When we woke up the next day the view from the room was spectacular. We went for breakfast and then we were told to collect our document for our transport back to the airport the following week. The representative then told us where all the facilities were and this started to put everyone's minds to rest.

The cable car ride up to the pool and the restaurant was a pain but then again we only had to do it 3 times a day and it was the same as waiting for a lift in a 20 floor hotel in Benidorm.

The food is first class and although the entertainment team was from Germany they were always smiling and talking to us (European unity?)

Corfu Town is really accessible by the local bus which picked us up outside the reception area and the Town is beautiful.

We paid just under 500 for 2 weeks and we feel we got really good value - 35 a day including our room, flight, all our food and drinks (would not go that far in Skegness).

So to recap:
1) Hotel is steep
2) Views are fantastic
3) Food is great
4) Staff are helpful
5) Germans are not that bad!
6) Cocktails are very alcoholic
7) Corfu Town is beautiful
8) The hotel is nice once you stay the first day

All in all a great holiday was had, met some really nice people - (George Rep - thanks for lending us the kettle) and will be going back someday.
