Capri: Town centre hotel by Gink |

Menorca may not be everyone's choice for a short stay winter break but the weather was considerably better than here and this hotel turned out to be a good choice. It is only a very short walk to the town centre shops and I honestly can't say the traffic noise caused us any bother but it was a very quiet time of year. It would not be suitable in my opinion for a summer stay unless you didn't drive and needed to be near taxis or the bus station to get around.
Firstly, the staff were very welcoming, helpful and efficient and the room though not huge was well appointed and contained a few touches more usual in a four star rather than a three star establishment - such as mini bar and notepaper and envelopes.
Unusually, for a Menorcan tourist hotel there was a full menu for room service available for quite extended hours.
Best of all for us however was the indoor heated swimming pool and jacuzzi which is housed on the top floor of the hotel and affords a rooftop view of part of the town of Mahon and just about a view of the sea! Although we didn't sample the spa so I can't comment on that - there are all kinds of beauty treatments available for those who want them.
If you are a computer buff there are computers in the foyer and it is possible to connect laptops.
The 'Telegraph' bar has an English theme to it and again is open very late. Even in winter it seemed to be popular, particularly amongst young people.
The hotel restaurant is in the basement and the lift only goes to the ground floor so would not be useful for anyone with walking difficulties. Apart from that it was well worth paying for the half board because the set meal which offered three choices of starter and main course was waiter service with buffet choice for dessert. The food was of a high standard though not always as piping hot as I personally like it but then they tend to use cold plates! Even if you choose not to have half board it is well worthwhile trying the pizzas as the hotel has its own pizzeria. These are genuine Italian style pizzas with some novel variations such as pear and walnut as well as all the favourites. They do a take away service which seemed very popular. The buffet breakfasts were better than any four star hotel we have been to on the island!
I am leaving the best till last. Uncomfortable pillows are my bugbear when staying in hotels but this hotel offers a choice of no less than six different pillows and lists their qualities for you to choose which one you prefer!
