Club las Olas and Punta Elena: Perfect value for money by Jitka Horcickova |
| Posted 12 June 2008 about a visit in June 2008 | Overall rating: 9.2 |
Club Las Olas is a perfect value for money. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, in fact 5 star services. Thank you Yessica, Martin, Candelaria! Location is very good, about 10 minutes walk from Corralejo beach and from the town centre. An apartment consists of a living room with a sofa bed and a small cupboard kitchen including a fridge and a cooker, separated from the bedroom area by a cupboard with a mirror on each side. Outside there's a private balcony with two sunbeds and a table with chairs.
Little Sahara
The national park of the dunes is made of sand brought over from Sahara and it looks just like being in Africa. A view from below a dune up to the sea is stunning with three stripes: yellow of the sand, blue of the sea and light blue of the sky. Climbing up a dune is like walking on snow: one step forward, two steps back and it's big fun to jump down! We recommend a bike ride to the dunes; Orlando (Avenida Ntra. Sra. del Carmen) rented us bicycles for 5 Euros a day. It's about 15 minutes to the blue flag beach by the ugly RIU hotels. On the beach be prepared for the wind as it makes it much easier to get burned because you don't feel the heat. We recommend to double the protection (I normally use 15 but 30 was more appropriate).
We also recommend to hire a car: one day is enough to travel around the whole of Fuerteventura (about 200 km long) but two days would be better for exploring more beaches in the south; Hertz (Main Street) rented us a small car for 39 Euros last minute (25 Euros if booked online in advance).
A trip to Lanzarote, especially the Timanfaya vulcanic park, is worth it, but the bus trip was a bit limited, I think it'd be better to rent a car.
Have a good holiday!! Jitka Horcickova & Veronica Massolini (Cambridge)

Club las Olas and Punta Elena: Should lose their star ratings by Elaine Thomas |
| Posted 13 August 2005 about a visit in October 2004 | Overall rating: 4.0 |
I read a few reviews on Las Olas and was not expecting much from my holiday but I have to say it was a pleasant place to be. The staff (except restaurant manager who was quite rude at times - Nov 2003) were there to please. The rooms were set around a more than adequate pool area (make sure you know the difference one bar for all inclusive but the other you must pay). Food was plentiful but if there for 2 weeks, as most places, it would possibly become repetitive. Good basic old fashioned spacious rooms with lots of cupboards. The resort beaches are a stroll away and not up to much (the carribean it ain't) but take a taxi to flag/kite/olivia beach or wherever it's more than well worth the hike, some of the best beaches your ever likely too see. I would recommend this resort to all ages married/single young or old, it's small but got bits for everyone. The hotel I'd recommend to anyone wanting good basic 3* accomodation with no frills and I intend going back later this year.
NOVEMBER 2004 - MY SECOND VISIT TO LAS OLAS and I have to say that it has most certainly gone down hill! It was never going to be everyone's favourite accomodation but this time meals were very hit and miss and sometimes I struggled to put together a decent one and that was when you could get any clean cutlery/crockery, one morning while waiting for clean knives for my cooked breakfast I ate my cereal from a cup!!! The staff - god bless them - one young girl had to serve drinks at the pool bar and cook the snacks at the same time, she was constantly running between the two. At one point a holiday maker went behind the bar to serve up the drinks and he even did a bit of cooking!!. I prefered just to "help myself". Regarding maid service, we actually went three days without clean towels and yes this time I did notice the ants, especially around the pool area. It's such a shame because with a bit of effort this could be brought up to scratch and be once again a comfortable if basic base for a pleasant holiday.

Club las Olas and Punta Elena: Excellent! by Blondie |
| Posted 20 August 2004 about a visit in August 2003 | Overall rating: 8.5 |
Both my boyfriend and i had a wonderful time at this hotel in Sept 2003. We went all inclusive and didn't regret a thing, there were a variety of food so no complaints there. Great entertainment and very friendly staff! Beautiful pool area with lots of sunbed space. I would recommend this very much!
Our all inclusive deal was such a great offer for all that we got!
The hotel has obviously improved since the bad reviews belows... cos you must be out of your mind to knock it when it has been one of the best hotels i have stayed in or maybe some people have just too too too high standards.....!

Club las Olas and Punta Elena: Holiday from hell by Tim Lyons |
| Posted 26 January 2004 | Overall rating: 3.0 |
Having recently returned on 14th January 2004 after a two week all inclusive stay at Las Olas, which included the New Year period, I can only suggest that "Blondie" and Elaine below are either very easily pleased or are employed in some way by the owners of Las Olas, because our "holiday" was an unmitigated disaster from start to finish.
That is not just my opinion, but that of the thirty or so other people, who along with me, are trying to get their money back from Cosmos.
The place was filty and in need of a good refurbishment, it was overun by ants and cockroaches, some of which ended up in the food, which even before the insects arrived, was inedible. Loads of people, including us had to go out for meals, even though we were on an all inclusive deal.
The barmen, on several occassions, fancying an early night, shut the bar at 23.30, leaving everyone in dark.
Protestations were met with threats to call the police. A bit of a liberty, seeing as the all inclusive deal was supposed to mean free drinks until midnight.
The central players in the fiasco had to be the manager,Snr Cruz and the Cosmos rep, Martin Mcgrath, who threatened to throw out a 77 invalided pensioner if she didn't "shut her mouth and stop complaining".
Cruz even threw out a family of six, after he decided they had complained too much.
As you will have guessed, it was pretty much up there with the "holidays from hell" and I only hope I have saved some other poor person from wasting their hard earned cash on a trip to this hole !!!!!!!!!
