Columbus: Great holiday but please read by Hayley Young |

Threre were 4 of us and we stayed self catering.
The hotel Columbus was in an ideal part of the resort. It’s on a road full of restaurants. There’s only a short walk (right at the roundabout) to the main night life. The beach is also close by. From the hotel we walked everywhere.
The room was a bit disappointing, the paint in the bathroom was peeling off the ceiling, there was a growth of around the window and one of the mattresses was stained.
There was a nice breeze on a night blowing through the building due to its design (there is no roof or floor apart for the corridor to walk down). I know it sounds strange but you have to see it to know what I’m on about. It’s not like your going to fall through the hotel as there are walls decorated with foliage. However you hear every door close and pin drop.
The rooms have to windows looking out to the corridor. It’s all safe as they have a wooden guard on them so you can leave them open and no one can break in. The balcony was big enough for the 4 of us but the room was only just big enough.
In the room we had an invasion of a few ants and we also herd some other people had the same problem. On the fist few days our fuse had to be changed in the electric board a few times as the lights wouldn’t work (the first was due to an unbelievable thunderstorm but nothing caused the other 2 times). The maids came daily at about 12 or 1 but on occasions didn’t leave us any clean towels. There also weren’t really enough towels for us all.
The pool area was nice and cleaned everyday. Although glass was found in the pools. Also be careful on the marbled floors when people have walked over them dripping wet as they are slippery! There was a large pool, a small pool both with terraces there were also terraces above the bungalows and on the 6th floor of the 2nd building this has 2 Jacuzzis. The hotel also had a beauty salon, a hair salon, a main bar area, a supermarket, a quiet English pub, a Chinese restaurant, a snack bar and a pizzeria. Use the supermarket Felipe as it’s cheaper than the hotel, there’s also a Spa and Netto around the corner stocking British branded food.
Although we had some letdowns we still had a great time.

Columbus: Great Time by Lynne Smith |
| Posted 01 April 2005 about a visit in February 2005 | Overall rating: 7.5 |
My husband and myself stayed in a one bedroomed apartment on the street side of block one, and although noisy, it didnt bother us, they were clean, the maid came in every day, there was plenty of room, and there was a kettle, a toaster, fridge, and a hairdryer and not a cockroach in site.
We sunbathed on the roof where there are two jaccuzzis, you get 10-15 mins for 2 euros. There are plenty places to sunbathe.
We only had buffet breakfast once, it was 5 euros for as much as you could possibly eat, and was good enough, the usual hotel food. We went to a place across the street where you got an english breakfast and juice for 2 euros, at that price its not worth buying in from the supermarket. The supermarket round the corner to the left is a lot cheaper and better than the hotel one.
The entertainment wasnt up to much, but there is plenty choice down the street, we went to the Jersey Cow on the corner and the Brewers Droop, further down, and if you are under 30 years of age there is plenty to do down Veronicas, although be careful as we heard alot of bad things about the area, muggings etc.
We ate often in a restaurant round the corner callad the Bohemien Garden, they did lovely steaks and across the streetwe went to the Pekin Gardens where you can get a 3 course chiners meal and a drink for 5-70 euros and it was good grub!
The only down side to the hotel is the security guards must have worked in a prison before, they should take a holiday themselves! They are very strict about noise levels which is good, but some things they got onto people about are just petty.
The reception staff were polite and helpful and we had a quick and easy check-in. The maid was very nice and even did my dishes one day when I forgot to do them.
The hotel is in a good location for everything really, restaurants, clubs, bars, beach, and the bus stop and taxi rank is just down and round the corner.
We enjoyed ourslves here, and would definately go back, though if you dont like the noise from a busy street then this may not be the hotel for you, but as I said it didnt bother us nor did it stop us from sleeping. If you enjoy Tenerife to the full, you'll be shattered by the time you get to bed. Cant wait to go back!!

Columbus: Tiny Apartments by scots_chick81 |
| Posted 31 March 2005 about a visit in April 2004 | |
When me and my mate booked our holiday we thought we had got a great deal. The apartments looked great in the brochure. The apartment was tiny and at one point the bathroom door locked itself leaving us without toilet and shower for a couple of hours before it was fixed.
During day we spent our time on the sun terrace there was no chance of getting near the pool. Never tried the food in the hotel and was grateful for the supermarket round the corner (netto). Wouldn't go to the supermarket in the apartments as they charged more than the others. We went on the whale trip. Good fun but over priced. The guy with the camera scared me though.

Columbus: situated in a good position by Ian Edwards 2 |

Just got back after a week half board at the colombus aparthotel. The food is very poor for a 3 star, its best to get a self catering deal at this aparthotel.
The rooms are spacious, but perhaps a bit dated.Only saw 4 cochroaches during our stay.
The swimming pool doesnt get any sun, but there is a roof top terrace and another one at the back of the hotel.
We had a room facing a busy road, which was a bit noisy, but nothing bad.
The entertainment in the hotel was good, it finished about midnight , after this you can hit the hundreds of bars in the resort.
Overall we really enjoyed our holiday, the weather was great for Febuary.
