Comodoro: Good 'ol Comodoro by Lynda Rowsell |

Have stayed at the Comodoro for many years now. Last stayed there May 2003 and had an apartment on the top floor overlooking the harbour. By far the best accommodation. Very clean, very quiet, and the views are out of this world. The Comodoro is slowly catching up with the top hotels for facilities, with their new lifts, swimming pool and pool showers. Louis and his team in the bar are very friendly and do a good menu for lunchtime. Prices are reasonable too. May seems to be a good time if you like it a little quieter as the children here are doing exams. We had the best service and were spoilt in all the restaurants probably because they weren't overworked at that time. Can't wait to go back.

Studio 201a, Comodoro, Los Cristianos
Well what a fantastic week we had at the above. Hubby always takes a week off in March to watch the Cheltenham festival, this year we decided to head to Tenerife so that I could catch some rays and do some shopping whilst he was watching the racing.
We booked the holiday DIY. After seeing a review about the above apartment I contacted the owner and booked direct. Next it was on to the Mytravel website for a flight - amazingly good flight times out of Edinburgh so that was that organised. On arrival at Tenerife it was great to be presented with a map detailing the Los Cristianos / Las Americas area, at least it helped us from getting lost. Waited for about 2 minutes for a taxi and 10 minutes later, 15 euros poorer, we were at the Comodoro.
COMODORO
On first impression the hotel looked quite old, though once in reception is became obvious that it was immaculately clean and well maintained. The hotel had a bar / snack area which provided good quality snacks. There were 2 pools (though one closed for maintenance) which were of a good size. Plenty of sunbeds were available at a charge of 1 euro per day.. This was great value as it cost 8 euro for 2 beds and brolly on beach. There were mixed nationalities in the hotel and think that there was quite a few Spanish and British permanent residents. Staff at the hotel were very friendly.
STUDION 201a
The apartment was on the first floor. From the balcony we had lovely views over the gardens and the harbour. Nice to sit and watch the ferries.
The room itself was lovely. It had obviously been recently refurbished. There were comfy twin beds, bedside cabinets, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The TV had quite a few English speaking channels. The kitchen was quite basic but enough crockery to cook if you chose to. We only used the kettle for making a cuppa. There was a fridge and toaster also.
The studio also had 2 fab easy chairs which good for relaxing whilst reading the papers.
OUT AND ABOUT
At the back of the hotel there was a gate out onto the promenade. By turning right it was about a 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Los Cristianos where there were plenty shops, bars, restuarants.
Places which we particularly enjoyed eating were The Olive Garden, Little Italy and Pailebot, these were all quite close to the Comodoro. If you prefer more British food there were plenty of places to choose from. We found the food to be reasonably priced, paying on average about 35 euro for 2 x 2 course meals with drinks.
One day we walked along the coastline to Fanabe area, this was very pleasant. It is quite a walk, though pleasant. Plenty of shops, bars etc is Las Americas to keep yourself amused also. Went on the tourist train and were quite surprised by the size of the whole resort.
At night we mainly stayed in bars near to the hotel. We usually went to Dreamers and O'Flahertys, both had entertainment on each night which was good.
Hubby found a couple of places to watch and have a punt on the horses - these being Harlequins and Churchhills.
WEATHER
Having been concerned about the awful weather which Tenerife had in January/February we were relieved to find the temperatures in the mid 20s. Most days were sunny with the odd overcast spell and a pleasant breeze
Return journey home no problems - got taxi from rank outside hotel back to airport, flight left on time. Returned home to a cold, damp Ediburgh.
All in all a fantastic place to go if you are looking for a good value holiday. I would not hesitate to book DIY again and would also return to the Comodoro.
