Concorde El Salam: Highly recommended by Hils Parrott |
| Posted 24 March 2007 about a visit in March 2007 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
This was our 3rd trip to Sharks Bay. have previously stayed at Hilton next door, but Concorde was recommended to us and they weren't wrong. Excellent hotel.
We booked a sea view as we like to snorkel early morning when the reef is at its best and our friends booked into the Concorde Sports. Our room was right on the front and could not have been better. Staff, facilities, food - all first class. Clean and comfortable room. The animation team put on great entertainment and work really hard. All the staff are friendly and even the maintenance staff will smile and say 'How are you?' Even the security guards are cheerful!
If you enjoy snorkelling Shark's Bay is brilliant. There are plenty of fish around the jetty but swim a few metres along the reef to see much more. Watch the sun rise at 6am and snorkel by 8am for a perfect start to the day.
We took a travel kettle and sachets for an early morning coffee - but you could have room service for a small cost.
There was machinery banging away a short distance along the bay, cutting terraces into the rock from 7am to late afternoon, with a break for lunch. Fairly loud down by the sea but barely audible further back by the pool and we didn't notice it after a short while.
Our friends in the Sports section did find there was noise from the airport but not exceptionally intrusive. Most days they caught the shuttle bus to join us at the sea end for the day and we alternated between the two for the evening entertainment.
Will certainly pay a return visit.

Concorde El Salam: A fantastic holiday i will return to! by Jennifer Ashbey |
| Posted 19 November 2006 about a visit in June 2006 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
In June 2006 I visited Concorde el salam sports hotal with my mom and step dad. I wasn't looking forward to it as I thought that I would get bored but how wrong I was!! I ended up having the time of my life and did not want to leave. All of the staff could not do enough to help you and make you feel welcome. My holiday started as I exited the plane at 35 degrees celcius. It was the best holiday I have been on.
I took a trip into Naama bay and Old Sharm. Naama Bay is comercialised and is a great noght out (you will even find kfc and mc donalds). old Sharm on the other hand is alot more traditional, only go if you are with one of the local people. I went with one the life guards who worked at the hotel and we had a fantastic time. However, the female members of your party will have to be careful as the egyptians are very partial to girls who they think are single with dark hair and dark eyes. I have very dark brown hair and eyes and received a bit of extra attention by the staff etc. Me and my family were even taken to the front of the queue in the airport!
The entertainment was good some of the time but the live band were aweful but there were arabian nights which were fantastic! There were also lots of sports and swimming pools to keep you occupied. However, majority of the time the heat was intense you just didn't have the energy. I did however, enjoy the lower temperatures in the pool at 26 degrees, it sounds warm but on one day the temperature went to fifty four degrees celcius!
If you do go, one of the things that you have to do is go snokelling or scuba diving. A snorkel set will cost around £10 in the shop and you can use the beach as much as you want. The sea is amazingly clear and the fish are indescribable! The colours are fabulous and they get so close.
The food is delicious, I am a choosey eater but always found several options to choose from for each course. The unlimited drinks were a life saver. You do need to buy some bottles of water as the tap water is not drinkable, but it is not very expensive.
The rooms were of a very high standard and, like the rest of the hotel, is of a very high standard of cleanliness. The cleaning staff leave you oragamy using towels and flowers on your bed which always puts a smile on your face when you return. As you walk around the hotal you are sure to find somebody cleaning the banisters or floor, they even hoover the pool floor at night!
The location was perfect and right next to the beach and a short free bus ride away from Naama Bay and Old Sharm. It was worth ever penny. I would recommend this holiday to anybody as you will have a fatastic time. The service was impecable. the rooms were beautiful. The dining had such choice of delicious food. You could ask for a cleaner hotel and I would challenge anybody to find a fault with the cleanliness. There were endless amounts of facilities to suit everybody. The location was brilliant.

Concorde El Salam: Concorde el Salam - Review by Wilson Mcmillan |
| Posted 19 April 2006 about a visit in April 2006 | Overall rating: 8.3 |
Went to this AI Hotel in April 06. Booked through Direct Holidays although the flights were Thomas Cook. Bit tight on the plane but a decent flight none the less. The airport at Sharm was a nightmare .. about 6 planes landed at the one time and it took over an hour to clear the airport. Didn't bother with a visa as we intended staying in the resort.
Arrived at the Hotel and we were immediately offered a room upgrade for £80. We took it and got a room with a sea view. The room was the biggest I've stayed in and had the usual TV, fridge and hairdryer. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. A tip here and there does help too ! We found the food good although there was no chicken on offer due to the Bird Flu.
Local drinks on the AI and they take a bit of getting used to. There is also an Italian restaurant where you can get your lunch on the AI and I would recommend doing that. It does get a bit busy in the main dining area. Swim up bar which was nice and of course you will get the best hamburgers ever at this bar at lunchtime.
Only took a walk over to the other part of the Hotel (Sports area) and it looked nice but quieter. The grounds of the main hotel are fabulous and well kept. There are two other pools in the grounds apart from the main 'infinity' pool. Entertainment was typical for big hotels but the entertainers do work hard. It was just that some of the stuff wasn't our cup of tea.
All in all a very good break at a hotel I wouldn't hesitate to go back to.

Concorde El Salam: Great Hotel by Lisa & Austen (35 & 33) by Lisa Muldoon |
| Posted 09 August 2005 about a visit in April 2005 | Overall rating: 8.5 |
Visited this hotel for 2 weeks in May and loved it so much we are booked to go back in November. Staff were fantastic and could not do enough for you. Buffet food was quite good for an AI hotel with pizza and pasta stands, large selection of salads, stews, potatoes, soup etc. Pizza a' la carte was great - this is free during the day but you have to pay a supplement in the evenings but worth visiting. Pool bar cooks fresh burgers etc at lunchtimes or you can have a bbq on the beach (all included). Piano bar is nice in the evenings or you can sit out by the pool bar until 10pm. Across the road is the sports bar which consists of an ice rink, horse riding, football, games room, large pool with slide, another restaurant and a pool bar and lobby bar. We found the sports section to be much quieter so its nice to go there if you want to relax. Never managed to get a sunbed by the main pool as they were taken before I managed to get up (7am) but we could always get a bed by one of the other pools or the beach. Hotel has a few shops which sell the basics and there are a couple of shops just outside the hotel - please note you cannot buy alcohol so get some at the airport if you want a drink in your room.
Rooms are nice with good air con, fridge, patio, large bathroom with shower and bath. I was a little dissapointed that there was no tea or coffee facilities, especially as we had upgraded our room.
The beach is very unusual as it is on a slope so its is made up in stages and you cannot walk out into the sea you have to go along a jetty which floats above the reef and get into the sea via steeps. The snorkelling is fantastic here. There is nothing outside the hotel unless you get the bus (free from reception) or a taxi into Naama Bay which is about 20 minutes drive away. Here you will find lots of restaurants, bars and shops and it is very lively but nice.
Only fault I have with the hotel is that the buffett restaurant got far too busy and some nights we struggled to get a table, and one night even had to share a table with another couple.
All in all a fantastic holiday and great value for money with guaranteed good weather.

| I stayed at the concorde december 04 with a friend for her 22 birthday. The hotel itself is amazing, 5 pools over 2 complex's plenty of choice for food, 1 indoor pool, 2 jacuzzi's steam rooms and saunas. The rooms were great very spacious with free air con. The hotel is right on the beach with a long jetty out into the sea if u dont fancy snokelling you can see the fish clearly from there. It was about 80 degrees each day (december) yet fairly cold at night. If you go in decmeber u need to be up early for the sun as it begins to set appox 4pm. Nama Bay is approx 15 mins in a txi but you can get there for approx £3 with a bit of haggling. Old Sharm is a little futher usually £4 with haggling although we did get back for £2.50. The food and service was great no complaints. The concorde el salam is an all round great holiday.
p.s CAIRO IS A MUST!!!

Concorde El Salam: Concorde Feb 2005 by Mark Caldi |
| Posted 21 March 2005 about a visit in January 2005 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
The Concorde is a fine Hotel. Just 15 minutes from the chaotic Sharm airport you will find peace and quiet. (See Sharm airport tip below.) Despite the close proximity to the airport you can't hear the planes - saw them just didn't hear them.
The hotel is spotless - nice grounds and the pools and facilities are excellent. Main pool was cold, but hey I dive in the UK so I'm OK with cold water. There isn't a beach as such at this hotel, more of a terraced set up with ramps and steps down to the sea. You can't actually walk straight into the sea as there is a fantastic house reef adjacent to the beach that means lots of fish of all kinds visible from the pontoon jetties. You can jump straight off the end of the jetty and into fish and coral heaven. Snorkellers take you gear !!! There is a house dive club that means you can go diving for very little money and those qualified can go it alone after a familiarisation dive with cheap kit hire. The buffet restaurant is great, waiter service for drinks and the standard get your own meals affair - no issues with the food always a good selection - pasta bar / pizza bar / local food / huge salad bar and more besides. The restaurants are open lunch and evening, the beach bar closing at sun down. Nice sitting areas and bars about the place a general relaxing setup.
Top tip get the girlfriend or wife to book you in at reception, the Egyptians like the ladies and our tack meant we were upgraded as a group of two couples to a very large suite! - It might not work but worth a try.
The health spa is a nice respite - large sauna - hellish steam room (lift your legs when the steam arrives as its like a jet taking off!) The massages are very good value and my wife tells me it was wonderful. Indoor pool is heated , the gym was smart but we didn't use it.
This hotel is well set out, but we all made comment regarding the steep nature of some of the walkways back to the rooms from the beach/pool. The sloes weren't hellish but something to consider. There are two hotels in one here, a short walk out of the main entrance across the was is a second Concorde!! More restaurants, more pools and the sports facilities - Football / tennis / squash / horse riding / running tracks / ice skating (No I'm not kidding!!) There is also a dolphin show, but we didn't go. Top tip for the Ice skating ask at reception for a 50% discount leaflet! One beach you will find Bobo's - providing all the usual water toys - bannana / parascending etc. The reps will try to sell you the excursions and local outings, but check out the local providers for a similar and cheaper alternative - just check they have there own insurance if they haven't your holiday insurance won't cover you. We went on the 4am Quad bike outing - into the dessert in the dark at 4am to a bedowin cafe for tea, then onto a mountain in the dessert to watch the sun come up over Tirran island - great fun and only £20 each.
Get yourself into Nama bay - great place - take you wallet, cash machines available in Nama - as well as a fantastic array of shops and restaurants (pizza hut / KFC and Hard Rock as well as the local stuff - fish restaurants looked great - a chinese (that Tony Blair goes to) and a thai.)
To get to Nama take the free hotel bus which you have to book or a blue and white taxi for $6-8.
Anyone going to this hotel will not be dissapointed, we certainly weren't.
Sharm airport tips - This airport is the most outrageous airport I've ever been through - absolute chaos! Just don't let it get to you as the Egyptians love to make things more difficult if they see you getting stressed - don't become sport for them and laugh it off. Get your passports ready have $10 each ready for your visa if you are going out of Sinai - if you are not going to leave the hotel do not buy a visa. If you are diving buy a visa as the national parks require a visa. Take some english coins with you for tips at the airport - I found a quid here or there meant your bags were sorted and you could get a trolley - there were those who got angry and cross at the tipping culture but go with the flow and tip - you are on holiday don't start it stressed over a couple of quid!!!
Take some tissues with you for the airport - the loo roll is obviously gold leaf and is handed out by a man at the door who strangely expects a tip...
