The hotel Condes de Barcelona was the perfect base to explore the Catalan capital. Situated on the Passaig de Gracia, one of the main shopping streets with many very expensive designer shops. The hotel is actually two buildings on either side of Carrer de Mallorca. We were in the Condess building for two days, our room was first class quiet and well appointed,only disappointment was the view. However the dining and public areas were under renovation and the noise in out room on the third day was terrible so I went to reception to complain. The duty manager apologised for the situation and immediately offered to move us to a quieter room, he sent me with the porter to see three rooms we could change to. As there was quite a lot of noise in the building I opted to cross the street to the other half of the hotel , the room had a corner window with a fantastic view of La Pedrera. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We were on room only basis and didn't eat at the hotel so can't pass comment on the food. The rooftop terrace is great place to sit in the evening and watch the world go bye. We walked to most of the places we visited, nowhere seemed to be much more than 30-35 minutes walk even Parc Guell which was a pleasant stroll through Gracia. The food was a bit hit and miss I reckon we made a few duff choices. I would highly recommend Sumum which is a two minute walk from the hotel. The night we went to the seafood restaurants of Barcelonetta was Sunday and they were all crowded and we were too hungry to wait for a table at any of the ones recommended to us and the one we chose was average. To sum up the Condes is a good hotel well placed and I would go back there again and would recommend it to anyone.
