| Cordoba Review: Priego de Cordoba | | Written by Suelees on 27 Jun 2005 about a trip in May 2005.
| | Probably less than an hour from Cordoba although we didn't venture there as we only had a few days and there was too much to see in the surrounding area which is known as the Subbetica national park. Wonderful fabulously sited villages with hardly a tourist in sight. Priego is full of baroque buildings and the fabulous Fuente del Rey, a fountain with (I think) appx 160 spouts. We stayed in La Posada Real which was a great little guesthouse in Preigo. It's in the Barrio de Ville which is the moorish quarter with your typical 'postcard' whitewashed houses hung with geranium pots in streets too narrow for vehicles. Ensuite room with breakfast for two was 45 euros pn. Juan the owner was fabulous. He introduced us to his friends and we had great evenings sat at one of the bars in one of the many local plazas and although very little English is spoken we could laugh at each others ignorance! The nightlife is low key but there are numerous places to eat and drink with the odd bar such as La Pena Flamenca staying open until the early hours. I don't know about Flamenco but they have classical guitarists playing most weekends. All in all we had a wonderful few days in typical Spanish atmosphere. |
