From the minute we arrived we received a very warm welcome. The staff are all very friendly and polite, always willing to help. We booked an Ocean view junior suite, which was lovely. Spacious and elegantly furnished. We had a fridge, which was handy for taking drinks up to the room from the all-inclusive bar, there was a bottle opener on the wall, filter coffee maker with supplies topped up daily, mosquito machine with the tablets supplied and even an umbrella for when it rains.
The food was ‘to die for’. Waiter service at all meals Breakfast at the Vineyard restaurant either inside or out. Lunch was served by the pool. Plenty of variety on the menu. Dinner at the Vineyard restaurant was really good. Menu changes daily. 4 choices of starter, always some type of seafood dish, soup and two others. 5 choices of main course, plenty of fresh fish and beef is imported from Australia, pork, chicken, lamb. Deserts were wonderful, the best crème brulee I have ever tasted. Plenty of choices. Twice a week dinner is served down on the dock by the sea. Both nights there was a choice of lobster, fish, beef and chicken, cooked in various ways. The chef here Oliver is German and has worked in the Caribbean for 10 years. He won the award for top chef in the Caribbean so he comes well recommended. The Vineyard restaurant can compete with any top London restaurant. You have to sign for meals and drinks and had we not been all-inclusive it world have cost an average of US$250 a day for food and drink, all-inclusive is a must. The bar staff are just great and mix a mean cocktail.
An alternative for dinner is the Polo Grounds bar. The menu is more varied with lighter meals should you require them. We couldn’t tear ourselves away from the Vineyard!
Evening entertainment is very low key. You can sleep when you want to without the risk of any disturbance. There was a steel band playing on the dock for the two native nights. Other nights from 7- 10pm there was a Calypso band, an excellent solo singer, a guitarist etc. playing in the Vineyard restaurant. All bars close at 10pm, but we took drinks up and sat on our balcony.
The private beach is man made. Three guys keep the beach and pool spotlessly clean. Plenty of comfortable beach beds and the beach and pool area never got crowded. The pool is quite small but again is very well maintained.
We were due to leave at 4pm on our last day so requested that we keep or room. This was not possible as it was booked, but we were given a courtesy room exclusively for our use with no extra charge. Our flight was delayed and as we had re-confirmed or flights the day before Air Jamaica called the hotel so that we didn’t have to hang around at the airport. The reception staff called Air Jamaica every 30 minutes until they got a confirmed time for or flight.
Getting there! Only Thompson’s go there from the UK, which we did not fancy at all and they did not offer the ocean view junior suite. Our travel agent booked it with North America travel who booked the hotel and Air Jamaica flights.
To summarise, we highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return. It was a totally relaxing holiday with high standards of service. There were guests of all ages there, but if you are looking for discos and nightlife then this is not for you.
