I have just arrived back from the Catarina Hotel after having stayed there for one week with my wife and two children who are twelve and eight. We never booked a transfer from the airport to hotel so got a taxi costing thirty Euros and the journey took around twenty five minutes.
When we arrived at the hotel we all thought wow! Checked into reception very quickly and proceeded to our room which was a bit of a walk onto the third floor there are lifts so wasn't all to bad. The hotel is spotless everywhere you look is marble the rooms are very clean all four of us was allocated to one room which was great, there were two single beds plus a fold down one which converted into one double bed, me and the wife slept in this which was home from home it was very comfortable.
Maid service was everyday though sometimes was a bit on the early side, bed sheets were changed twice a week and clean towels each day. The meal times were good too with Breakfast served from 0800 until 1030 and Evening buffet style dinner from 1830 until 2100. The food was good plenty of salad with hot meats cooked fresh. Hot breakfasts were available as well but it was not the bacon or sausage we are used to so gave this a miss.
At the hotel you can access the Internet at the price of one Euro for ten minutes if you have a lot to do on the Internet then shop around for the best prices. There is a childrens club but this is very poor with it being open for an hour during the morning and one hour in the afternoon. We stayed on an half board basis and one good thing is that your room card can act like a store card aswell when you check in ask at reception to put some money onto your room key (we added 400 Euros) then each time you want to buy something from the bar or drinks at night with your meal coke for the children this card is swiped through a machine and job done! You receive a 10% discount if you pay this way then put your receipts in the Catarina Box because each night a draw takes place and you win prizes.
There are two pools which I think was quite deep for small children and the chemicals which are used to clean the water have been used far too much it felt like swimming in bleach water so people with weak eyes beware! The hotel is quite a distance from all the activites that the resort offers to get to the bars and clubs where the English hang out it will cost you around three Euros in a taxi I recommend Wemblys Bar but watch out for the DJ Terry Bull I am not saying no more but don't wear white socks!!!
Back at the hotel as regards to sunbeds well we never had a problem but if you want to get on the opposite side of the pool from where the main bar is then you need to be up quite early to beat the Germans as this is where the Sunshines first thing in the morning, if you remain on the bar side then you have no sunshine until the afternoon. Towels are placed on sunbeds and these people don't even lie on them. We met this lovely couple Peter and Elaine with their son Warren from Salisbury who most of the time spent the evenings with. The beach is not too far from the Hotel just turn right and keep walking but beware go this way and you have to walk over the sand dunes and when you get to the beach you are bang in the middle of the nudists area so to avoid this just walk along the sands heading towards the centre of Playa del Ingles.
Overall we had a smashing time at the Catarina even though the evening entertainment was a bit on the poor side, but just walk out of the hotel turn left and cross the road here you will find the Cita Shopping Centre where the entertainment is great at night.
Marks out of ten for our stay at the Catarina- 8.
Would we go back there YES!! Enjoy yourselves

A very good hotel.. Staff very friendly and helpful... Rooms excellant if you like yellow !! only joking ..but they are good.. Food is very good and of a fine standard.. Bit of a treak to the beach ..but I suppose it always is when its hot ..
