Stayed here 4 nights recently on a disney holiday primarily to go to universal studios/island of adventure.

Hotel is a 3.5 star and has a business /conference outlook but is still ideal for holidaymakers/families as well. Service levels were impeccable and above average for the star rating.
It is relatively new so rooms are in extremely good condition, good size and well appointed. Ours had a fridge and a microwave.

Good news for holiday inn priority club card holders of gold or above is that access is granted to a concierge level on the top floor offering complimentary drinks and internet access in a very comfy large lounge.

A complimentary continental breakfast is also offered in the lounge as is a free evening buffet between 6 and 9pm where the also offer complimentary wine and beer.

Location wise, it is about 2 miles from the gates of universal studios and there is a free bus service provided by the hotel. Times going to the park were excellent but coming back were a bit more spread out.Use the bust to go and get a 7 dollar taxi ride back to the hotel.

The hotel itself is in a quiet location about 300 yards off International drive. It is a 5 minute walk to I drive where there are plenty of shops/restaurants.

Crowne Plaza Universal Orlando: We had a fab time over Christmas at the Crowne Plaza Universal by Linda Salkeld-Craddock

We have just returned from spending Christmas at the Crowne Plaza Universal and the Hotel Christmas decorations were great. We had an absolutely fab time. We upgraded to the Crowne Plaza Universal after reading such excellent reports on various hotel review websites and reading terrible reports on the hotel that we initially booked. We were thrilled when we arrived and knew immediately that we had made the right decision. We were given a family room (two queen-size beds) on the 12th floor in the quiet zone. The room was a great size. Apart from the two very comfortable beds there was a comfy armchair, desk, tv, en suite bath/shower, double wardrobe, four drawers, air conditioning/heating and in-room digital safe. The room was very clean and maid service was daily. Beds were changed every three days, or more frequently if you wished. Towels could be changed daily or if you wanted to take part in their environmentally-free option, they would be changed every other day. The beds were to die for - so comfortable and the linen was of the best quality. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. And, Douglas, the Head Doorman is as good as reported on reviews in - he knows everything and offers good advice. The pool area was always clean - the pool warm and the jacuzzi red hot! The gift store was reasonably priced, claiming to be cheaper than Disney stores, and this was correct. There were good self-service laundry facilities on the second floor. I didn't use the hotel laundry service, it was expensive. There was ample car parking facilities. We felt that the Crowne Plaza Universal was centrally located for all the attractions. A 10 minute walk to Wet & Wild and a short drive from Universal and Disney. By car you could reach International Drive in under 1 minute, depending on traffic, but you could walk there easily in under 10 minutes. We didn't eat in at the Hotel because there were some many other cheaper diners very close by. One night we had drinks in the lounge bar and it cost $28 for two lagers and two tia marias - which we considered ok for hotel prices. There was also a games room, which our two sons aged 15 and 11 enjoyed. There was air hockey, pinball machines - all which took tokens from could be bought in the games room. We can't recommend this hotel enough and when we eventually return to Florida it will be to the Crowne Plaza Universal.

Closeby there are bags of diners to chose from. We tended to eat at Ponderosa for breakfast for under $4. The selection was vast, you could choose from: cereal, fresh fruit, cooked breakfast, toast, pancakes, yoghurts, jelly & much more. We particularly liked the Golden Corral on an evening - buffet like you've never seen before - a family of four we ate for under $40 (about £20) - including soft drinks which could be refilled and refilled at no cost.

Rooms were wonderful very nicely decorated very comfortable beds covered in pillows and cushions. was very quiet hotel and didnt seem meany tourists there. Very friendl staff. pool great and wasnt ever busy when we were there. Small gift shop. Would go there again. 5 to 10 min walk from international drive which wasnt a bad walk. We had a room overlooking universal boulevard but because it is a lot quietr road than international drive never noticed any traffic noise.

When deciding on a Holiday to Florida we took our time surfing the web trying to find somewhere that looked nice, We eventually booked for 2 weeks through Travel City Direct which we called up after seeing them on teletext and we booked our hotel.. Crowne Plaza Universal.

We had to admit that we had our doubts before we arrived as we had been to Florida several time before and hadn't seen or had heard of anyone else who had visited this hotel.

BEST HOTEL....

We have to admit that we had smug grins on our faces for 2 weeks and couldn't wait to tell everyone how good the hotel was.

The hotel was Minted, the rooms are excellent even though some of the are high up as there are 14 floors.
We had an 11th floor room looking over the pool, the views were fantastic, in the distance we could see the large skyscrapers in downtown orlando and nearer to hand we could see the rides at Universal and Islands of Adventure

The rooms are spotless clean and the cleaning staff were brilliant, the rooms are cleaned 7 days a week.
On arrival the room had a pack in the bathroom with all the odds and ends you could need ( free )
toothpaste, shower gel, soap and some medicines e.t.c

The Swimming pool is nice and clean and there is a poolside bar in the afternoons.

We only ate in the hotel 3 times...
We had an evening meal and a breakfast which was just ok.
if you can afford it get the breakfast delivered to your room by room service, this was fantastic,
and the best breakfast ive had in florida
The Hotels food is no hardship as its onlt a 5 -10 minute walk to the heart of International Drive where I would recommend ...

TGI Fridays
Vito's
Charleys
The Olive garden
Wild Jacks

The Hotel is situated on Universal Bvld, this is only one minutes drive from
International Drive, try to avoid the Sandlake road juction at night as this can be extermely busy, if you stay on Universal Bvld this will take you to all the attractions as it runs parralell with "i" Drive.

Drive time from hotel to attractions....

Wet & Wild : 1 minute
Universal Studios / islands of Adventure : 5 minutes
Seaworld : 5 minutes
Disney : 20 minutes

this is one of the best hotels i have stayed at in Both USA & Europe so far.

I have rated this Hotel 10 out of 10.
