| Dubai Travel Guide: Dubai - shopping and having fun in a building site!
| | Written by Ali UK1 on 22 May 2006 about a trip in May 2006. Trip was for a single traveller on holiday. Ali UK1 would maybe visit again.
| Dubai shopping | 8.0 | | Dubai is a shopaholics paradise with everything you could possibly want. The exchange rate does tend to work against you in the high street shops, items in Next for example were more expensive than in the UK, even in the sale. The souks are the place to go, where you can haggle the night away. |
Dubai nightlife | 10.0 | | Dubai is probably the safest place I have been on holiday, I'm sure it's helped by the amount of taxis that are around all through the night. The night life is fantastic and you can party all night if that's what you want. |
Dubai restaurants | 10.0 | | There are so many places to eat in Dubai that you are spoilt for choice. It's a dilema everytime you want to go out. I really like to go to Karama for falafel, tabouleh, houmus and arabic bread and there's nothing nicer than eating lebonese cheese bread after a night out on the town. They cater for all tastes and diets. Although, you know you're in another world when McDonalds and Burger King will deliver!!!!! |
Dubai attractions | 8.0 | | There are loads of things you can do, I've been on a desert safari upto Hatta and on a dhow dinner cruise along the creek. The Wild Wadi water park is fantastic for bringing out the inner child and now they even have a snow dome in Mall of the Emirates! |
Dubai events | | | There is a shopping festival which is held every year and I am told is well worth a visit. For the sporting among you there is the Rugby Sevens and the infamous horseracing. |
Dubai day trips | | | There are plenty of day trips, a Desert Safari where you go Dune Batting (driving up and over sand dunes) Wadi Bashing (driving along dried river beds) day trips to Hatta where you can swim in the pools and overnight excursions into the desert. There are lots of travel agents to book through, we got details from Time Out magazine which has lots of information on events in Dubai. |
Dubai History and Culture | | I have visited Dubai 5 times in the last 7 years and have seen it grow to enormous proportions! The nightlife is fantastic, especially if you are female as the clubs offer free drinks on Ladies nights. There are air conditioned taxis available everytime you step out of a building (just make sure it is a registered & metered taxi) and no-one walks anywhere. There is every kind of restaurant you could possibly want and more!
At the moment there are so many building projects going on that Dubai has become a very noisy building site in most parts and traffic congestion is still a problem as is the case in most large cities. |
Getting to Dubai | 10.0 | | It is very easy to get to Dubai, lots of airlines go there, Emirates now have direct flights from Birmingham. |
Getting around Dubai | | Getting around is easy, taxi's are very cheap. I wouldn't recommend anyone drives the first time they go, the roads are a nightmare, no-one signals and everyone is constantly honking their horns. |
When to visit Dubai | | Dubai gets very humid through the summer and the midday sun is very fierce. I have been in September, October, April, May and early June. Things are very quiet during Ramadan |
