I had read good and not too goodreviews about the Dunas Paraiso. The good reviews were fantastic, so I booked a holiday. My husband and I are fairly easily pleased on holiday, we are not perpetual complainers, and I will generally let most trivial things go over my head.
A hotel has to be a pretty good all rounder to be awarded 4 stars. You cannot simply build a new hotel, with fantastic rooms and facilities and expect that to be enough.Because when you are offering all inclusive, the food and drink element come into play as well, and unfortunately this let the hotel down badly for both of us.
The bar area was bordering on 2 stars. The wonderfully sounding help yourself to all beer, coffee and soft drinks was an absolute shambles. The quality of beer out of the pump was dreadful, the soft drink dispensers (when working) were throwing out completely flat cola, orange etc. and if you did want a coffee it was served up in cheap white thin plastic cups. Sorry...this is not 4 star. To go to the expense of furnishing the rooms as they have, and then not even provide ceramic cups for hot beverages beggars belief. The bar staff are surly and overworked.
The dining experience wasnt really much better. I came to the conclusion that you simply cant have a hotel as big as this, with so many people residing, and retain the refinement required and expected of a 4 star hotel. People were waiting outside the dining room a good 10 minutes before opening. Not because they were starving, but leave it too late and you wont get a seat and the food will be cold.
Overall, this is a lovely hotel to look at. But I work hard to get away on holiday, and when I pay extra for that little bit better, I do actually expect a little bit better. This hotel didnt deliver

We have just arrived back from dunas paraiso, this is a fantastic hotel, the food is really nice, the all inclusive package is very good, nobody minds if you want to eat lunch in the restaurant by the pool or even on your balcony the choice is yours, you can even take fruit and donuts from the restaurant in the morning for the kids (as mine like 11 am snacks) the shop and clothes boutique is really good value! they had two large pools and one baby pool, baby pool was lovely and warm, one pool quite cold the other heated although just a little chilli when you first get in, entertainment was good, kids club alittle boring no toys or enough activites for little ones, we would definately book again infact we just booked a holiday for my mother and father they go out on Friday! weather was hot !we stayed in one of the two bedroomed villas overlooking the sea it was heaven ! the jacquzzi bath was heaven. This hotel is good value for money.

My husband, 8 year old daugher and I stayed in Dunas Paraiso in August 07 for 2 weeks. I had read other reviews about this hotel and was quite wary of going. How wrong was I. We had a great time.
The reception of the hotel is amazing, the check in staff were very friendly and spoke good english and even managed a few jokes at 2am!!!
We had a junior suite which has a huge seperate bedroom with en suite (bath and shower), a living area with a seperate toilet and wash basin, and an absolutly massive balcony which had a table, 3 chairs and 2 sunbeds on it.
The 2 pools were lovely, the top one being the quiet one and the bottom where all the music and daytime entertainment went on. Ok they were a bit cold but what do you expect.
The food was ok. Large choice with 3-4 different meats and fish, rice, pasta and all the salads you could imagine, plus the kids had there own mini buffet.
The entertainment was average, the animation team tried very hard to do things with limited resources, I think the hotel needs to invest some more time and energy into this side. My 8 year old loved the kids club, and the animation team were excellent, nothing was too much trouble.
The area is very quiet, 5-10 min walk into Playa Paraiso which has a few shops and bars, and 15 mins on bus into Las Americas. If you want a lively holiday thewn this isn't the place for you.
Overall we had an excellent time and are actually booked to go back again in November this year for a week.
