I've just returned from a book-it-myself trip to Gran Canaria. I booked the Dunas Vital Suites through MedHotels.com and although dubious all the arrangements were fine. From the greeting we had at the hotel everything was excellent. The hotel was fairly quiet but it was early March. The hotel is three stories high, but as the hotel is set on a hill (don't worry about this!) you enter on the middle level. The hotel is basically in a U shape with two swimming pools set in the middle. Beyond this is a terrace which looks over a golf course with the Dunes of Maspalomas and the lighthouse in the distance. It really is a pretty view and having a drink on the terrace by the poolside bar is very pleasant. The hotel is set in a quiet area away from the action - but only a 10 minute walk to Yumbo CC. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a Junior Suite, which basically means you get a separate bedroom - which was nice. The room was kept spotless throughout our stay. Because the hotel was so quiet the bar only stayed open until 11pm (2am in Summer aparently). The bar was dead although there was a keyboard player/singer on every night. It maybe better in the summer with more people about - we only had two drinks there the whole week. The pool bar during the day was fine though. The weather in March was changeable. Quite a lot of cloud and one heavy downpour - but most of the time we had sunny periods - and it was hot enough my us to get bad sunburn. In conclusion I wasa very happy with the hotel and would reccommend it.
