Eden Resort and Spa: Fabulous wedding at the Eden! by Louise Basquill |
| Posted 01 October 2004 about a visit in August 2004 | Overall rating: 8.5 |
We recently got married at the Eden and had a wonderful day and a fantastic holiday!
The ceremony was colourful and felt very special and the a la carte meal we enjoyed with 21 of our friends under the stars on the evening of the wedding was superb.
Every single one of our group of 23 said how much they enjoyed their stay at the hotel. The pool was a great success with the two youngest members of our group (aged 8 and 6), everyone found something tasty from the wide selection available in the restaurant in the evening and the staff were pleasant and very attentive.
We too made friends with one of the locals who hang out on the beach (Pate), and he organised our trips out to the Elephant Orphanage and Kandy, as well as trying our hand at a number of water sports. The trips were fantastic and great value for money and cost us half of what the tour operators were charging. Pate also helped us out getting aloe vera for sunburn, mosquito repellants, a guitar for the day of the wedding, Arrack (the local whisky) to take home as presents and just about anything else you can think of!
The only slight problem we had was too do with payment of our bill, where the hotel had not recorded that we had paid £600 off our tab! We sorted the situation out eventually but I'd recommend you keep hold of all your paperwork whilst at the hotel!
All in all it was a great experience and we're left with a lot of happy memories.

Eden Resort and Spa: eden hotel by Steve Smyth 1 |

stayed feb 2003
Relaxing hotel , spa exellent.
forget it if you want lively resort (guests mainly middle aged or couples getting married when I went) .
Get your drinks from huts on the beach as they are much cheaper than hotel bar and you can watch the sun set .
Try to stay over night if you go to kandy/elephant santuary as journey is torture.
Food good staff not over helpful but ok.
locals use spotters (cheap labour that stand all day outside complex entrance on beach) that look for new guests arriving when spotted you are pointed out to english speaking sellers who try to sell tours or all manner of things .
we used one who was quite helpful.
once spotted with him was left alone buy the rest ,some sort of gentlemans agreement ?
can be anoying but just say no and they get the message after a few days (guards on gates prevent them comming into complex but not enough of an annoyance to prevent you going on beach
