El Mouradi: Sol El Mouradi Oct 2004 by Bernadette Cummins |

We visited this hotel in October last year. the staff were lovely and very friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable. unfortunately the food was not very nice they seem to cater for the Germans French and Italians.
The entertainment was a joke to say the least. We enjoyed the shops and bargaining with the people was fun, my husband got a lovely heavy leather jacket for about 100 euros. The shop on site they are lovely and will make slip on shoes for you if they do not have them in stock

El Mouradi: Overall, a nice relaxing holiday by Martin Sheppard |
| Posted 13 April 2005 about a visit in February 2005 | Overall rating: 8.5 |
First impressions:The hotel was situated behind it's sister hotel, the Mouradi Palace, and looked less impressive because of this. However, the staff were welcoming, and polite, and in no time we were comfortably in our room.
Good points about the hotel: The staff were very accomodating, and people who were not happy with their rooms for whatever reason, were soon re-accomodated. The rooms were cleaned and linen changed daily, which was more often than in the brochure. There was only one pool filled at this time outside, and it was freezing. However the indoor pool was like a bath, and our son spent loads of his time there.
The food was cooked thorougly, and there seemed little chance of belly bugs.
The nightclub was situated in a seperate building, and although our balcony overlooked it, there was not much noise. We were told by younger people that the club was good.
Bad points: The food left a lot to be desired. Although well cooked, there seemed to be little variation. All the meat seemed to be in the same bland gravy, and it was hard to distinguish pork from beef from chicken. The cakes and puddings were very much the same( generally a sponge with icing and syrup over it). The breakfasts did not appeal to us at all, as they all seemed to be geared to the French and German guests. On the one day they had bacon on the menu, it had more hair than my dog.
The entertainment in the evenings was, quite frankly, laughable. Every night from 8 o'clock til 8. 30, there was a kids mini disco, which my 9 year old joined enthusiastically. From 8.30 til 9 the reps would drag the older people up to the floor for ballroom dancing. After this they had a varied entertainment time, ranging from; the reps doing silly sketches like pretending to be dogs and pretending to wee over people, live music( two guys on keyboards singing Elton John and Elvis songs very badly), music quiz nights (mostly really old silly music like agadoo or the birdy song), or for one night only, a fakir act( laying on bed of nails, swallowing fire, etc;). All of this I could have got at Butlins, only Butlins would have forked out for more than 3 entertainers per night.
Drinks were also a disappointment. the local beer was ok, but the spirits were like water and quite expensive. My other half tried 4 different cocktails, which all looked and tasted the same.
Local interest:Plenty of places to go here. We had a day at the Medina in Sousse. A taxi to Sousse is about £4.( we got a free ride from the hotel from a man who's brother owned a carpet factory in the Medina, on the premise that we tour his brothers shop and buy if we wanted to). We did not want a carpet, and were escorted from there to his cousins shop (a leather shop). We made a great buy here. A full length leather coat was purchased for a bottle of scotch (scotch costs about £70 over there). We were then allowed to leave our guide for 1 and a half hours to look round the rest of the Medina and Sousse. The man then politely escorted us back to the hotel.
Port El Kantoui was also a good place to visit. You can go by taxi for about a pound, but we prefered to walk (twenty mins along the beach, or fifteen by road). There are fixed price shops there, where we priced up what we wanted to take home with us. Then we went to the other shops and bartered until we got what we wanted at the right price. The locals love to barter, as do we, and we got some great bargains. However, it should be noted, that if you are abrupt or abusive in any way, the locals will fleece you for every penny. Just smile and be polite, dont be afraid to say no, and you will get what you want.
Camel trips are abundant, but beware, the guys on the beach and the streets near the hotel offer trips to the Sahara for the afternoon; they mean the local countryside. It takes a full day on a bus to reach the Sahara, so dont be fooled. We went on a local trip for a half day, alternating between camels, horses or horsedrawn carriages. A great day was had by all, including the mites I picked up off the camels, which ate me all day long, until I reached some bug spray.
From Port Al Kantoui you can also get boat trips. We went on a catamaran for two hours, and were lucky enough to see dolphins.
This is a holiday which I would certainly repeat, although I may go for a more English orientated hotel in future.

El Mouradi: Very nice by Claire Nock |
| Posted 12 March 2003 | Overall rating: 9.0 |
Me and my boyfriend went to the Sol El Mouradi in May 2002. The hotel staff were very nice especcialy the waiters. The rooms were clean and modern with a tv and air conditioning. The balconys over looked peace tropical gardens or the pool. There are two large pools with plenty of sun loungers to go around. The hotel was positioned on the beautiful beach with clear sea and white sand. The food at the hotel was good with pancakes being served for breakfast most days (yum!). The evening meals consisted of spaghetti bolognase, chicken, veal, seafoods and freshly made omellets. We couldnt complain and everything was kept very hot. The bars were good although the coctails were expensive and had very little alcohol. Wine is cheap but there are limited choice. The entertainment was limited but they tried there best. All in all this was a great hotel.
