Electra Palace: Fab Time by Gina Hooker |

We (4 mums and 9 kids) stayed in the Electra Palace from 17 - 24 July. The food is excellent - there is a very good choice and the children found something they liked at each mealtime. The hotel is clean and the staff very friendly - that is except Nichos at the bar. The children really enjoyed the pool which is completely different to the one in the brochures. It is now a large free-form pool with a nice safe childrens' pool. The playground is brand new. The kids club was only for one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. We had one devotee and the others drifted in when they felt like it.
The entertainment team were really great - that is Jan, Katie, Yannis, Suzanne, Tassos and Alexandre. They organised various events during the day such as Greek dancing, water polo, quizzes etc which were all very low key and you weren't pressured into joining in at all. In the evenings they put on various different shows from comedy sketches to music from the 50's to the 90's etc. They were always very cheerful and enthusiastic and the kids adored them.
The hotel is on the breezy side of the island (thank goodness). The sun was very hot and although we covered the kids in Factor 60 some shoulders did get slightly burnt so beware. Because it is on the breezy side the sea has a very strong current and we didn't attempt to take the children down to the beach.
One of the most annoying things about the hotel is only being allowed to take 2 drinks per person - as we were a party of 13 it meant several people had to go to the bar and even if there were three of you sitting having a drink at the bar Nichos would keep on about only really being able to serve 2 drinks even though he could see quite clearly who the drinks were for - this rule wasn't just applied to alcoholic drinks. Sam the other barman was lovely though. Overall I think you get really good value for money.
Rhodes town is about a 10-15 min journey away. The taxi journey should cost 7 or 8 euros - we were ripped off by a couple of taxi drivers. The town is really lovely and well worth a visit. We also went to the water park which everyone really enjoyed.
All in all we had a great time and what's more no one had a funny tummy!
