| Elounda Travel Guide: A Village as intoxicating as the Raki!!
| | Written by Bob49 on 02 Sep 2006 about a trip in Sep 2005. Trip was for a family on holiday. Bob49 would definitely visit again.
| Elounda shopping | 6.0 | | Unless you are staying in the large 5 star hotels on the outskirts of town there are no designer boutiques in Elounda, however, you have a vast array of the surio shops selling all your tourist type gifts from 'Elounda' fridge magnets to a rather nice leather handbag. There are two supermatkets in the centre and also a pharmacy in the square along with a bank and post office. What more do you need? |
Elounda nightlife | 9.0 | | Ok, so you come in to the square of Elounda and you are simply spoilt for choice in terms of which bar to choose, however our favourite has to be BABEL. Recently refurbished (doubled in size) this is probably the comfiest and friendly bar in town, the three brothers welcome with open arms visitors old and new. At night Elounda can be very busy especially if you need to get a taxi around 11pm can prove to be fairly busy for a cab. |
Elounda restaurants | 10.0 | Probably the only restaurant in the Village worth talking about is The Ferryman. Just off the main road towards the causeway this traditional and family run taverna has everything - Excellent Food, Excellent Wines Fab Service from the Main Man Achis. You cannot faut the food and because everything is done with such care you dont even mind the sometimes long wait for a table or your bill. My only complaint was the waitress with long hair that was not tied back - a big no no in UK, (maybe shes not there now) but with good food and atmosphere - when in Greece....
We also tried the Argo restaurant part of the EGV complex again - simply stunning - excellent food albeit alot pricier than the afformentioned Ferryman but this is a 5 star a la carte and still worth every penny. |
Elounda day trips | | | Spinalonga Leper Colony (former) is a must see whilst in Elounda and the boats sail across every 30mins from the harbour, it only takes 25 to get across and they leave you for an hour to explore the island for yourself. |
Getting to Elounda | 10.0 | | From Heraklion it takes 1 hour by car or by coach transfer can take up to 2.5 hours. From UK flying time is 4 hours |
