Probably

Eurotel Altura is a fine hotel, well staffed by courteous waiters and waitresses each with a sense of humour (this is especially true if you are able to speak Portuguese!)

In the off season it is a hive for north European OAPS (including my elderly parents - which was the main reason for me visiting them at Xmas).

I would strongly advise the need for a car (to avoid cabin fever) and since this part of the eastern Algarve is rapidly being opened up then it is quite easy to get around. The huge Monte Rei golf complex is set to transform the local area and I suspect it may well change the Eurotel as well.

If you want to get away from the ritual in-house entertainment of magic shows, bingo, musicians, quizzes etc, then trips to Castro Marim, Alcoutim and especially Vila Real de Santo Antonio are musts. The latter has a lovely safe secure atmosphere to it.

The rooms are comfortable, spacious and clean. The views in our apartment on the fourth floor were magnificent. The indoor swimming pool is well-heated and the meals are edible if a little basic.

There was some disruption due to problems with leaking pipes in the outdoor swimming pool leading to some noise and limited access to outside areas and a detour to get to the beach. Nevertheless, and overall I was happy with the experience.

Eurotel Altura: quiet in Oct by Vic Newey

Holiday

Visit again?
Maybe

Just returned from a week at the hotel, Oct 2006, weather was warm but showery & windy,

Excellent cleanliness & fresh decor, maids came every day & even folded your pyjamas!

Buffet dinner had a reasonable cold selection but limited hot with little choice, also the sweet was limited to 2 items of which one was a jelly.

We walked to the spanish border from the hotel & had a taxi ride back!

With all rooms overlooking the pool/tennis court etc. I would think it would be very noisy in high season but the windows are double glazed & each room has its own remote control aircon unit

The hotel is rated as 3 star but I think it desrves better than that
