I have stayed at this hotel twice - & rate it as one of my favourite hotels ( I have stayed in many as I am a Travel agent!)
On both occasions it was for my ski holiday - and what luxury! From when you first glance the hotel you know it will be something special. The valet parking is great - not cheap mind you, but when it is -30 and snowing, you are glad that someone else is getting the car warmed up! The reception is like a grand hall - and the staff are brilliant. Fairmont don't allow tipping - it is all included in your room rate, which sorts out the problem of how much etc etc. The hotel is large, with various types of rooms. The standard rooms are smallish, but very well equiped. On my 2nd stay we were upgrade to the next room type - which was more spacious.
The hotel has amazing facilities - a gorgeous swimming pool & spa. Great choice of shops,restaurants, and even a pub! The 24 hour cafe is in the lobby, and great to grab a hot chocolate when you have walked back from the town in the evening. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Banff - but you may get to see Caribou on the way, along with other wildlife.
What I really like about this hotel too, is how laidback it is. It is not at all stuffy, even though it is a grand 5*.
I am sure it must be beautiful in the summer too, which is the high season. When skiing, splash out and stay here!
