Four Seasons: Perfect for Shopping in Bangkok by Sonia Martin |
| Posted 04 September 2007 about a visit in August 2007 | Overall rating: 9.9 |
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights from the 4th to 7th August.
Location:
The hotel is situated right in the centre of the shopping district so if you are going shopping in Bangkok, this is the place to stay. The standard of the hotel is definitely 5 star.
Rooms:
Our room was an executive room (2559) and was adequate for what we needed but a little small, the bathroom is very large ( almost as big as the bedroom) and is very well equipped with beautiful toiletries provided and very large shower. Usual slippers and robe provided, and nightly turn down service.
Food:
Breakfast was quite elaborate with everything you could possibly want regardless of your tastes. You can sit in the outside courtyard or in the air conditioned restaurant. Eggs, omlettes, etc all cooked to order and delivered to your table.
Dinner in the Italian Restaurant was excellent. Service was good but wine very expensive. Price of the food was very reasonable for a 5 star hotel which surprised us.
Pool & Gym:
Pool area is not large and if the hotel is full you probably would not get a bed. However the staff would do their best for you as they are very helpful. Cold water and cold towels are provided each hour which is a nice touch as usually these hotels want to sell you bottled water at inflated prices. As this is not the type of hotel you go to in order to lie in the sun the size of the pool is fine. A lot of noise during the day as they are building a large hotel next door, so you won't be sleeping by the pool!
The gym is excellent and again the staff could not do enough for you. Setting you up on the treadmill with your towel, water and headphones personally is a nice touch. Plenty of machines and equipment to pacify anyone who uses a gym.
Can't think of any negatives other than the size of the room which in hindsight we should have upgraded as we were there for 4 nights and we did get it a very good rate to begin with.
Breakfast box was a nice touch as we checked out at 6am in the morning and kept us going until we got to Koh Samui!.
Overall:
Would definitely recommend this hotel if you are going shopping as it is right beside the 4 largest shopping malls in Bangkok and you can walk around without having to negotiate the traffic and taxi service. We took a Tuk tuk one day for a short journey and it was worth the experience ( only costs 100 bhats - €2 ) for a journey anywhere. But remember to negotiate before you get into the cab.
Finally, we used a company called TourEast for all our transfers and they were brilliant. Arrived in beautiful clean cars, 15 minutes ahead of schedule for all our 6 transfers while we were there. Very resonably priced and cheaper than asking the hotel to pick you up.
