| Funchal Review: Oct 2002 | | Written by Iggi Grundy on 13 May 2003
| Try to pick a hotel near Funchal centre, reccomend near old town/cable car terminus. Avoid if you can those up the very steep hillsides, it gets to be a drag after a while. Taxis are cheap.
Ambience is cafe society chic, more Lisbon/Madrid than small town in the middle of nowhere. Attractive old buildings & superb gardens to visit. Ate out every night, never had a dud, prices reasonable & all 30% cheaper than UK. Try limpets if you get the chance. A vist to the market is a must. I loved it & will be going back. |
