Goa shopping

8.0
For shoppers the Tibetan market is still the best place for silver in the resort, but if its 22 caret gold that you want, visit Mapusa the gold shops around the market are open every day not just Fridays, beware the jewellry shops in Calangute, tourist prices can be double the local prices for similar items.

The Wednesday market at Anjuna is still fantastic and continues to increase in size, loads of stalls selling the same type of products so haggle for every thing including bottled water. Ingo's night market has reopend in its origional location and is about back to normal and is still probably the best of the 2 markets held on Saturday night although Mackies is catching up fast. Go early it save traffic hassle, parking is pitiful, but when you get in there, loads of stalls.

Goa restaurants

8.0
For a good meal out I can recomend the Capricorn past the Tibetan Market on the beach road, excelent food at reasnoble prices, meal for two with drinks about 850/-try the Kingfisher Strong 8% proof, great teast.

Goa History and Culture

Calangute itself is very busy, with lots more traffic also more shops, food outlets and bars, more hassle of course as every one is trying to make a living in the little time avalable.

The Donna Terezhina is still as described in previous years, a basic hotel with large clean rooms, but one disapointment the meals are now buffet style, but fresh cooked food was still avalable off the menu, the staff are great and can't do enough for you.

I still think that all inclusive here is good value.

Getting to Goa

This year we were able to book our flight from Manchester, and best of all it was direct both ways, we were met at the airport by Abbit a local taxi driver from Calangute who rang us in the UK and arranged to pick us up, for people who have not been before there is a taxi office opposite the doors out of the airport, you pay at the kiosk, if you are with a tour operator dont forget to inform the rep that you are making your own way to your hotel, the taxi is more comfortable than the bus and quicker.

    Hi
You will find quite a few reviews of this hotel on Holidays Uncovered and must say that everyone I read seemed to praise it highly. We were supposed to have stayed there Xmas/New Year booked it Jan 05 but we ended up in South Goa because Thomas Cook said the Santiago had overbooked!! I'm sure you will be OK and after all who cares where you lay your head when you are in Goa.

    >>Answer 2 by Lisa Clifford (24 Jan)

stayed 2yrs ago, nice hotel but no need to go all inclusive in goa......we found all inclusive a waste of money
